BORDER TOWN is a collection of songs written in the vein of classic 70’s/80's singer/songwriter albums. Though the individual songs are each a story within themselves, the whole of the record is designed to evoke an overall experience to the listener. BORDER TOWN truly belongs to and written for an audience who appreciates the vinyl experience - a collection to take with you on your journey. To simply push play … and go.  Side one of the album begins with the upbeat top-down convertible song "Raining" describing an impromptu summer backroads drive with a beautiful girl ... to anywhere. Ending with the title track "Border Town" on side two -, a reflective song about growing up in the small Texas 'town at the end of the road'.

To fully realize the vision of BORDER TOWN, Ed looked no further than his long-time friends and Grammy award winning producers Michael and Ron Morales.  Michael himself being a very successful Top 40 Polygram recording artist and co-writer of the song "Raining". Musicians on the record included Michael and Ron Morales - along with Emilio and Diego Navaira of “The Last Bandoleros” .

Ahead of their time, Spirits of the Night led by songwriters Ed Morales and Carlos Mata, were touted by likes of Billboard, Circus and CMJ magazines as 'the next big thing from Texas since ZZ Top'.  This album was recorded at Europa Sound Centre in Austin Texas and featured guest session performances from some of the top Austin musicians at the time.  

Recently this critically acclaimed album was only available in vinyl (if you can locate a copy). Target Entertainment owner Mark Leonard took the original master tapes and had them masterfully converted to digital format, remastered and now available to be rediscovered by a new audience.

Don't Get Enough

The original release of You Call My Name recorded in 1990 at Edit Point Studio.  This version was recorded by members of various San Antonio bands including The Secret, The Maxx, Panic Local and Manic Shuffle.  Though recorded as a single, this was (inexplicably) never released.  Master tapes were thought lost until a version was found on cassette and converted to digital and then mastered.

You Call My Name was was later recorded and released in 2013 on Ed Morales' BORDER TOWN album.

Though in different keys, tempos and production approaches, each version holds a unique style for their respective times. I love them both.

NAME from the 2006 Album "Apple & Thorns".  This Christian worship song is an uplifting praise to the Gospel or 'good news"...  the redemptive and life-changing power from a relationship with Jesus Christ.  He accepts you as you are ... to realize who you are in Christ, Jesus ... the "Name above every other name".  

Originally recorded in 2003, this song was arranged & produced by Grammy Award winning producer Michael Morales - who later produced Ed Morales' critically acclaimed album "Border Town".

THE ROAD TRAVELED

Somewhere along his decades long musical pathway — possibly while on the road or hanging in the air between his various homes in Nashville, Austin or San Antonio, Texas singer/ songwriter Ed Morales caught a vision for his own brand of guitar-based alternative pop. He has taken expressive acoustic and electric guitar, and imbued it with an emotional, plaintive vocal quality that seems to aim for a transparency with the listener.

Gifted in the art of live performance, his musicality, harmony and emotional range point back to earlier influences — Harrison, Dylan, Browne and Henley.
