THE AKIN ONIGBINDE INTERVIEW

My guest on this edition of State Affairs is Dr Akin Onigbinde, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. He has B.A and M.A. English from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
He studied law at the University of Ibadan where he also obtained a masters degree in International Relations and a PhD in International Humanitarian Law.

Onigbinde was the speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) from 1992 to 1993 when General Sani Abacha led the military to truncate the Second Republic. He and others pioneered the formation of the National Conference of Speakers and he was the chairman from 1992-1993.

He is a member of the Alliance for Democracy (AD). He is in court challenging the appointment of a caretaker committee for the party in Oyo state. In the suit, he argues that the appointment of a caretaker committee to steer the affairs of the party in the state is “illegal and unknown to the AD constitution”.

He has published widely on subjects of law. He co-authored the work Contemporary Issues in the Nigerian Legal Landscape.
In this interview Onigbinde explains Nigeria’s politics and provokes the people to act or remain victims of the political leadership. He uses political history to explore the questions of social justice and rule of law in Nigeria.
