At a time like this it falls on the Nigerian people to make the change required for transformation. This is because the country’s leadership has shown clearly its greed by working against the fundamental objectives and directive principles of state policy as stated in the constitution.

It is this condition of the state that worries social activists who have risen above the complacency that arrests the revival of the state. In this conscious effort at redemption is the will to be politically active. This is where Jaye Gaskia comes in. He kicks against the maltreatment of Nigerians by a leadership that should give them succor.

Having tested the Nigerian system as an activist confronting the wrong policies of the state, Jaye Gaskia learns the lessons of betrayal and deceit presented by Nigeria’s politics. It is a lesson he shares in an interview that explores the reason the establishment holds the people down and why the people appear helpless.

Gaskia identifies the fissures and why they exist.

Gaskia is a revolutionary socialist, an anti-establishment person helping to build a movement to take back the Nigerian state and return it to the people. By coming out to run for the presidential ticket of the Sustainable National Party SNP, he shows the resilience required for the liberation struggle. Though schemed out by his party when it mattered most, he has learnt his lessons and will help form a new coalition for the rescue mission.

Born in 1966, Jaye Gaskia, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.
He is a Humanist.
He is a Crusader for Social Justice and Human Rights Protection.
He is currently the National Coordinator of Protest to Power Movement (P2PM), and Coordinating Director at Praxis Centre, a Civil Society Research Think Tank. He is the Chair of the National Steering Committee of the Partnership Against Violent Extremism (PAVE).
He chairs the Civil Society Consultative Forum on Peace and Security.

Gaskia is a founding member of Campaign for Democracy (CD) and rose to become one of its national leaders.  He co-founded the United Action for Democracy (UAD) and became the National Convener between 2011 and 2013. In 2014, he was one of the 24 Civil Society Delegates to the National Conference organized by President Goodluck Jonathan. He held different positions at Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth, Nigeria. He was the First Global Conflict Advisor with ActionAid International.

He fought the military and came out with bruises, leaving scars of redemption. He is not broken but vehement in his approach. He aligns with the resource control struggles of the Niger Delta. He concludes that the dangerous elements that have captured the Nigerian state need to be met frontally.

In this interview Jaye Gaskia tells the story of how his party sold out and denied him the presidential ticket. He explains the complex nature of Nigeria’s politics and how Oby Ezekwesili learnt a new lesson. Gaskia provides a breakdown of the path to follow in building a coalition in the interest of the common good. In his analysis, Buhari and Atiku represent the devil and deep blue sea. With them he says Nigeria will plunge into deeper crises.
