How do you explain that we sometimes understand each other with very few words, as if we were already lovers elsewhere, in an elsewhere that goes beyond what we usually perceive and call reality? Perhaps we’re constantly opening portals between dimensions, where the same information is expressed through different codes. Portails, is about transcending boundaries, with each track serving as a portal to a distinct soundworld populated by strange, otherworldly creatures. Musically, it navigates a landscape of cross-genre experimentation, demonstrating how a narrative can emerge through contrasting genres and sound textures. Each track taps into the same emotional core, using different sonic languages to express a unified journey.

Présences is a sound art intro that weaves together various samples, heartbeats, and a cute synth pattern inspired by Vivaldi's Stabat Mater. It creates an ambient tapestry of fragmented presences. In the hard hitting Camouflage, Claustinto's haunting vocals, driven by a heavy bass, sharp textured artisanal FX, and a persistent nagging synth, explore the pressures of societal masking. Cockroaches breeding in the backroom references the nich trend of consensual insect porn. Built on a hollow, resonant kick, with syncopated rhythms, a roaring bass, and bed squeaks, this track pulses with primal energy and backroom sweat. ATTENTION, please alternates between breakbeats and pounding techno, layered with a long, rumbling 808 bass, complemented by vocal samples from SOPHIE. Spooky Action is a haunting, steady techno journey. The eerie synth textures set the atmospheric tone, while Tilda Swinton's words from Only Lovers Left Alive muse on self-obsession and affection for nature and others. Repersonalisation is one of the EP’s most powerful tracks, using electronic music, club references and samples to build a narrative in a unique way. It mixes breakbeats with a psychedelic organ and Half-Life 2 samples in order to build a story of battling forces. Finally, DJ WEED’s remix of Sex with insects develops astringent textures and restless beats in a freaky transexual mutant backroom ambiance.

Composition, mixing and mastering mostly took place in Submarine FM’s studio, in Blacieux, Ardèche. A cute place, in an old barn, overhanging the Rhône, masked by a fig tree, with cats, chickens and ducks for confidents. This EP carries with it the atmosphere of solitude and natural beauty of the surroundings. The sight of apricots rotting in the summer sun, the Rhône flowing below, the low hanging clouds and mature blackberries all left their imprint on the music’s texture.

Claustinto created the lyrics and reworked the instrumental of Camouflage. Sex with insects was composed during Simo Cell’s boot camp, organized by Trempo Nantes in march 2025, with the vocal help of Scolcab. It was also remixed by the talented DJ WEED, who I thank so much <3

Comment expliquer qu’on se comprenne parfois à très peu de mots, comme si on était déjà amant.e.s ailleurs, dans un ailleurs qui dépasse ce qu’on perçoit et appelle réalité ? Peut-être qu’on passe notre temps à ouvrir des portails entre les dimensions, où la même information s’exprime à travers des codes différents. Portails parle de transcender des limites établies, chaque morceau en étant justement un qui mène vers un monde sonore, peuplé de créatures étranges. Musicalement, cet EP navigue dans des paysages d’expérimentations entre les genres, montrant ainsi comment la narration peut émerger à travers les contrastes. Chaque track puise dans la même source émotionnelle, utilisant des langages sonores différents pour raconter un voyage unique.

edna ( https://soundcloud.com/ednahaha ) uses deviant beats and dark and ecstatic textures to create a portal to other dimensions. Her music is like a zest of life, developed in weird, dynamic and sexy atmospheres, into which ectasis and joy appear like explosions. She explores the narrative potential of DJ sets, weaving in and out and around hard techno, breaks and tribe, choosing a direction rather than a stream. On the stage, she sculpts a weird and playful, generous black-eyed creature, often associating music with visuals, dance, and performance.

This new premiere is from a track from “Portails”, her first EP, announced for the beginning of 2025, after several single releases on compilations in 2023. As a rising DJ and producer from the queer scene of Marseille, edna’s talent is demonstrated well beyond, in European clubs and within multiple musical and scenic collaborations with artists from all over the world.

J'ai composé cet EP à un moment où je me sentais en plein boum ésotérique, où je percevais des réalités autres que celle du quotidien. Je l’ai donc pensé comme une EPopée, où les protagonistes entrent en connexion à travers d’autres dimensions. Chaque track est un espace qu’iels vont explorer, guidé.e.s par une créature gardienne de ce monde. Le résultat, musicalement, c'est une sorte de "tous ces morceaux racontent la même histoire, mais utilisent des langages sonores différents". Je l’ai composé à une époque où je mixais beaucoup de techno/breakbeat. Donc c’est nourri de musique faite pour le club, mais ça n’en est pas, ou pas en priorité. Les gros kicks, les breakbeats stressants, les hihats around the head, c’était surtout des outils pour raconter cette histoire. J’ai aussi été chercher des samples de séries, de films, de jeux vidéos, pour peupler ces mondes. Pendant la compo, j’ai aussi attribué des créatures à quelques tracks, dans le desordre : Aquali, Fantominus, Fourmilion, Cafards, Chaurus.
