'Oh man, I’ve got good news all around! First of all, even if there wasn’t anything to celebrate, this mix from Heathered Pearls is absolutely superb! Almost two hours in length it navigates many favorite genres and artists represented by the Michigan based label, Ghostly International. Just look at this amazing tracklist! In 2009, Ghostly celebrated its 10 year anniversary as a label, with many shows across the globe. This year, the label is commemorating a decade of performances at Decibel Festival. The 10th Ghostly showcase at Decibel will feature live performances from Dauwd, Beacon, Lusine and Shigeto (Friday, September 27th at the Crocodile) and you know that I’ll be there all night!

Meanwhile, Jakub Alexander (that’s Heathered Pearls), a curator of the ISO50 blog and founder of Moodgadget Records, has just released a digital remix album, titled Loyal Reworks, featuring many great artists, including Sun Glitters, loscil, Markus Guentner and Lawrence. In the Cartesian view of identity, the body is a container for our mind, personality and ultimately our soul. But what happens when technology allows us to transcend the limitations of physical reality as we know it? In a post-corporeal life, our bodies may no longer be confined to the rather cumbersome form of a human but instead a vast digital network. Matrixxman just so happens to be an inhabitant of such an environment. When he is not busy spawning a myriad of artificial intelligence entities and endless virtual worlds within worlds, he also enjoys composing music. The essence of which is crafting new interpretations of something straddling the grey area between classic Chicago house and Detroit techno. "Resurgent techno atavism" as he prefers to call it.

In 2013, Matrixxman’s debut EP "The XX Files" received critical acclaim, garnering praise from the likes of The Fader, Pitchfork, XLR8R and Fact Magazine. His relentless rhythm track "Protocol" has been supported and played by a who's who of dope underground elite including Levon Vincent, Jimmy Edgar, Jeff Mills, San Soda, Boddika, Pfirter, Danny Daze and Dubfire. Meanwhile on the house side of things, various tunes of his have been rinsed by tastemakers such as Larry Heard, HNNY, Huerco S, Seth Troxler, and Damian Lazarus... to name a few. Endeavoring to construct "the most futuristic shit ever" with just a year under his belt, Matrixxman is a name that will be known for years to come.

I just got back from South by Southwest and everything has changed. I had the opportunity to DJ out there and it was one of the most satisfying and unforgettable moments of my life. Never have I had more fun playing out and never has my life been so dramatically altered as a result. I’ve been toying around with these mixtapes thinking about mixing them proper for a while, and in light of my experience in Austin, the time is now to make that a reality. And here we are. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoy making them. I present you a new chapter in the mixtape series: the first live mix. Thanks to all the artists who continue to make this beautiful music; without them, I'd be lost. Thanks for listening, it means a lot.

Solid Steel (23rd May) In Hour 1 we're delighted to welcome Leon Vynehall to the show. Following his recent release on Martyn's 3024 label, he delivers an exclusive mixtape of his own unreleased edits just for Solid Steel. He told us;
"I had a bit of time off after I finished Music For The Uninvited, so I pulled out a bunch of records and made some early 90s hip-hop and decided to make a mixtape. I've been fortunate enough to have some friends sing and mc on it too."
Those friends include Ava Trilling, Speelburg, Kasflow and Rosalind for a sublime selection of beats, including his 'vynedit' of the classic Broad Factor by Quasimoto.
