After my coffee house days I put  my performance life away to build a family.but every week I tried to put a song idea in note book..Once I got old and family set I came back to my music doing a few songs a year...then I got this terminal type feedback on my timeline so I grabbed up the best music folk I knew over the years...put a studio band together (Hot Cookie) to record 100 HIT songs from the notes I took every week for 50 years. While Momma hummed Psalms to the silent defiance
Of jars lining shelves, peaches bleeding syrup like years,

Momma’s preserves shattered like census records,
Daddy’s fists clenched around phantom harvests.
I found you at dawn by the dry irrigation ditch,
Your shadow a scarecrow stripped of its stitch.
You muttered “Soybeans pay better than ghosts,”
Left your childhood boots as roadside boasts.
Now the mailbox coughs up subpoenas in spring,
The fields a chessboard where pawns eat kings.
I stole midnight’s ink to tally the cost—
What’s lost to rust can’t be sold to frost.
Let the auctioneer chant his heartland’s rant,
I’ll sow wild clover where their concrete can’t.
The crows brought me crowdfunded rain,
Trading viral storms for the right to remain.
I hybridize memories with heirloom grit,
Streamline the plow but let the dandelions commit.
Momma bakes rage into sourdough starters,
Daddy’s ghost debugged the John Deere’s martyrs.
We host agritourists in the barn’s new guise—
Instagram widows paying to romanticize
The “authentic decay” of our hollowed-out home,
While I code drip systems from granddad’s loam.
The crows judge all, but cut me a deal:
“Keep one acre wild, and we’ll kneel to no reel.”
The weathervane’s still singing off-key,
True north buried where the wild chicory
Breaks through the GPS-straightened rows—
A rebel bloom the spreadsheet doesn’t know.
The crows tally interest, but the land’s reply?
“Debt’s just a season… and seasons die.”

they said i’d echo where i’ve been

held my boy when he broke his arm 

said “you’re tough,” kept my voice calm 

he looked at me with tearful eyes 

i kissed his head and just… don’t cry 

mama passed on a sunday night 

i dug through photos, held on tight 

my sister wept, my brother sighed 

i clenched my jaw and just… don’t cry 

lost my job after twenty years 

packed my desk through quiet tears 

the boss said “sorry,” i said “i’ll try” 

then drove home slow and just… don’t cry 

watched her grow from curls to grace 

first dance shoes, then college place 

she hugged me once, said “thanks, goodbye” 

i waved her off and just… don’t cry 

but i feel it all, every ache, every high 

every moment i let the silence lie 

i held it in, like men are taught to do 

but lord, these tears—they know the truth 

so if i break, just let it slide— 

i’ve spent a lifetime tryin’ not to cry 

she walked the aisle in satin white 

her eyes met mine, the world felt right 

she whispered “dad,” and i knew why— 

we both let go… and let tears dance, not just cry

He wasn't chasing fame or glitter; instead, he chose the soul-crushing beauty of music for music's sake.

Years spent hunched over sticky barroom tables and scribbling lyrics on napkins earned him a reputation—not in the spotlight but in the back rooms where deals are made. He wrote melodies that found their way into the hearts of stars who had lost their own muse. He sold his creations for cash, with no recognition, but the whisper of his songs carried the weight of his soul.

Finally, he bought this piece of desert paradise—a stable income from his timeless songs allowed him to live comfortably, if anonymously. Here in this hacienda, with his family beside him and the mountains as his backdrop, he found the peace to write hits under his own name.
