After leaving some space for our Vapordub shoots to bloom peacefully throughout March and April, our guestmix series is back with OKO DJ alias Marine Tordjemann. Living in Athens, coming from Paris, the hyperactive artist is part and/or has been at the initiative of many influent projects over the past years. To name a few of them only: Brothers From Different Mothers, LYL Radio, Bruits de La Passion… No more name dropping as OKO DJ definitely carved herself a deserved place in the current international musical landscape.
However, we’d like to highlight (even if not much needed) two very personal projects of her own: The Pu$$y Nightmare party and radio show, to promote women and spirituality in the cultural and music scene, but also the inspiring music she’s been composing since 2020 and especially her ‘Dans les Lunes’ EP on Futur 2010.

Through this 76-minute recording, Marine offers an ad-lib flow of her mind-set back then: happiness, calmness, frustration, research, anxiety, doubt, love, and beauty. Thanks to her moving gathering of cherished, intimate gems, learn to free yourself both from past disillusions and overwhelming expectations.
Now, carry the precious seed with you. Feel its roots slowly spreading through your veins, to eventually reach your heart. Share the word, ask others: ‘How does your present moment feel like?’.

For Scrying the Landscape VII, Elina Tapio and Hannah Pezzack find orgasmic pleasure in the concept of Ecosexuality, a term originated by sex worker advocates, performance artists and environmental activists, Annie Sprinkle and Elizabeth Stephens. Against colonial capitalism's violent subjugation of nature, Ecosexuals instead treat the Earth "as a lover." Encompassing marriage ceremonies with mountains, crafting sex toys out of organic matter and climaxing under waterfalls, they centre desire and fetishism in order to protect ecological systems. The horniest iteration of Scrying the Landscape yet includes 'Morning Star-Red Glare- Sequoia Bridge,’ from Elysia Crampton Chuquimia’s ORCORARA 2010, an album narrativized through a romantic entanglement with a sentient plume of smoke, dedicated both to the prison inmates fighting wildfires ravaging California and the indigenous practice of prescribed burns. With great thanks to @fourchambers, a creative pornography project by @vextape, for the soundtrack from the film ‘Human Botany’ and the audio tour of the 'Ecosexual Bathhouse' exhibition by art-collective Pony Express.

AM: Ojo! What have you been up to recently?

Yooo fellas, been rather busy, spinning various plates of music/work/life and trying not to get overwhelmed by all the fun stuff going on and killer music constantly being released! 

AM: How and where did you record the mix? Was there a theme or anything behind it?

Recorded it at home on my gorgeous set-up, shout out to my housemate Jacob @ Simpliply (link below) for building the hottest DJ units going.  I played a mixture of records and digis. 

In terms of theme, I guess I just wanted to try and reflect the kinda stuff that you guys have been promoting and releasing with AM. So it’s full of pretty dubbed out selections, music that walks the line between heavy and light, eerie and comforting, smooth and abrasive. 

AM: you use certain external effects / pedals within your mixing (and this mix) - is this a new thing/used frequently? Do you feel it lets you express yourself more in your djing?

Yep just recently treated myself to a delay unit, after much deliberation I chose the Benidub Digital Echo (link below) which I think sounds ridiculously nice, is easy to use, and also is electronically designed to work with mixers and other gear, rather than just guitars. Big tip!

Definitely helps in a variety of ways, whether you just want a bit of hands on improvisation whilst playing an individual track, or especially when you wanna create an interesting or exciting transition between tracks. Just gotta be careful not to overdo it cos it is very very fun!

AM: You really do have a style within your production already, very intricate/delicate/dubbed - tell us a bit about it and also your set up?

Kind of you to say, I’m definitely getting closer to the kinda sound/feeling that I imagine, although there’s a long way to go still. I work mostly just in Ableton, using a mix of samples, soft synths, and fucked up FX plugins. My ‘process’ (if you can call it that) can probably best be described as chaotic. Need to work on that…

AM: What’s next for you in 2022? Gigs/releases/food/trips/anything

No gigs of my own on the horizon, although I am v much available for booking so promoters HMU ;~) I’m currently working on a couple of new releases, one which will be my debut EP, coming out on a really dope label, if/when I manage to get it finished…

Otherwise I’ll be doing plenty of music tourism round the UK, eating dank food everywhere I go, and gazing out the window of cross-country trains. Got a few festivals booked in, particularly looking forward to Meakusma in Belgium, looks like a lovely mix of fun and experimental sounds. 

Until then, looking forward to having my heart warmed by seeing various talented friends continue to shell it at clubs n festivals! Peace x

Born and raised in Banjaluka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, his diploma says Master’s Degree in industrial design, however, lately you will find him more in the roles of a graphic designer, visual artist, DJ. Spending his formative years in Belgrade and Milan, now living in Amsterdam, his interest in music grew exponentially, being shaped by a mixed bag of experiences gathered throughout space and time. For the last 3 years, Vanja has also been a part of the Garage Noord family. As for the music, Vanja’s friend once described it by saying ‘it is a trip deep inside the belly of the beast.’

The turn of the millennium sparked fears globally of a technological fallout: computers would crash at the changing of a ’99 to a ’00, security systems would fail, the world’s nuclear stockpile would be triggered. The impending panic of inaccurate ordering of automated dating in digital systems spread its fear far and wide and came to be known as the Y2K bug.
On the underside of the world, in Australia, where most things arrive late, distorted or totally different to their original form, there were two women embracing analog and digital technologies in all their glory. Nicole Skeltys and Kate Crawford were better known as B(if)tek, a pioneering electro-femme outfit. Feminism with a wink and a bleep. Ladytron before Ladytron. Nicole’s eccentric solo project was Artificial – Hillbilly House – as she likes to call it.
