Elf Power formed in 1994 and over the last 19 years have released twelve albums, two eps, and a handful of singles, while touring North America, Europe, and Japan many times. Albums such as 1998's Dave Fridmann-produced A Dream In Sound and 2008's collaboration with the late Vic Chesnutt, Dark Developments have cemented the bands' reputation as the finest purveyors of  modern melodic pychedelic folk rock around. Their latest album, Sunlight On The Moon combines the scuzzy, sleazy recording qualities of their early lo-fi masterworks with their powerful live bombast, with experiments in Kraftwerk-styled/Eno-esque drum machine minimalism, into a seamless, perfectly flowing whole. The album's release on October 1, 2013 coincides with American tour dates with the recently revived Neutral Milk Hotel, with whom Elf Power did their first big national tour 15 years ago in 1998! Many more headlining shows throughout America and Europe are planned for the fall and spring. Singer/songwriter Andrew Rieger and longtime collaborator multi-instrumentalist Laura Carter are joined by James Huggins (Of Montreal/Great Lakes) on bass, and Peter Alvanos on drums, though all the members play a wide variety of instruments on the recordings. Longtime collaborator Bryan Poole (Of Montreal) still joins the band on guitar at live shows.
    
The band recorded the latest record in a variety of settings ranging from singer/songwriter Andrew Rieger's home studio, to Athens, GA's The Glow studio, to Lavonia, GA's Gypsy Farm Studios, a long derelict country music theatre located in rural Georgia.  Newly renovated and transformed into a recording studio, the beautiful auditorium hosted concerts from the likes of Dolly Parton, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and George Jones throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Some of the songs sprung from a return to Elf Power's original mode of songwriting, writing and recording the song simultaneously without rehearsal. Songs like "Lift the Shell", "A Grey Cloth Covering My Face" and "Things Lost" were recorded as they were being written with Rieger playing all of the basic instrumentation and other band members later embellishing the creations with their own flavors. Often, a more fully rehearsed "full band" version was recorded as well, but the more minimalistic original versions were preferred for their stranger, looser qualities.
    
Sunlight On The Moon sees release on October 1, 2013 as a joint release on  Darla Records / Orange Twin Records. Orange Twin Records works in conjunction with The Orange Twin Conservation Community, 155 acres of beautiful land on the outskirts of Athens that has initiated the development of a highly progressive, self-sustainable and ecologically-minded cluster village and nature preserve.

Based in London, The Guilty Ones have extensively been playing all the credible gigging circuits around the UK – after a fruitful studio sabbatical they are now ready to release their infectious new single ‘Conquer The World’ through Auditorius/BMG Chrysalis, home of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Frank Ocean, Tame Impala and Bruno Mars.  This track is just a small taste of what you can expect to hear from this band.

The Guilty Ones are being overseen and produced by the legendary Rupert Hine (Stevie Nicks, Tina Turner, Howard Jones, Underworld); co-produced by their guitarist Jo and Alex Beitzke (Ed Sheeran, Paul Weller, Foster The People, Jamiroquai) with the mastering being overlooked by Bob Ludwig's Protégé Adam Ayan (Madonna, The Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Incubus). Liv's vocals are recorded by Chris Kimsey (The Rolling Stones, INXS, Duran Duran and Elton John) at the historical Olympic Studios in London.

The single "Conquer The World" is taken from their forthcoming EP simply called ‘Conquer The World EP‘, and iconic producers such as  Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers,  Idlewild) and  Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, Razorlight) have already contributed to the bands various studio cuts. James Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers lead vocalist) got to hear The Guilty Ones laying down tracks in their studio. He then kindly offered them the use of the Manic’s string section and their North Wales studio complex where the 'Guilties' added some stunning string arrangements to a few of their tracks. "Conquer The World" will be out July 28th. Enjoy!

Conquer The World

This Frontier Needs Heroes have spent the past five years playing shows all over the world. Just Brad and Jessica with a guitar and a tambourine, and their voices, logging thousands of miles in their car, touring the greatest cities of North America and Europe, selling one record at a time, making one fan at a time. This determination and DIY ethos brought them on an epic journey around the world, playing in clubs, houses, and festival stages.

After two successful albums under their belt in which they explored their stripped down alternative folk arrangements, This Frontier Needs Heroes decided to try something different. The name of the band, a reference to Woody Guthrie’s famous WWII-era guitar graffiti “This Machine Kills Fascists” didn’t just apply to its core members Brad and Jessica Lauretti, but it’s also an invitation for everyone to become a hero in their own right.

Their new album Hooky, recorded in the summer of 2012 on 2 inch analog tape at Dr. Dog’s studio in Philadelphia with the help of Loveland Recording’s Nathan Sabatino, was made with the contribution of a full band, making Hooky their most richly realized and, yes, hookiest album to date.

Brad and Jessica’s harmonies and vocal interplay, a key ingredient in their sound, are preserved, but the inclusion of additional band members — including players from O’Death’s David Rogers-Berry (drums) and Robert Pycior (violin), The Blank Tapes’ Matt Adams (electric guitar), Golden Boots’ Nathan Sabatino (organ), bassist Turner Stough and sitarist Arvid Smith — brings a breadth and depth to their already rich and elaborate sound.

Distractions, is a quirky and soulful landscape of songs centered around the friendship of two offbeat characters who become entangled in the distractions of love. This is the story—and debut—of artist, John Nagle, and producer, Nahneen Kula.

Right before they met, John unwittingly discovered Nahneen’s home-made recordings online and was immediately captivated by her voice which is featured all across the album. John’s guitar driven grooves and breathy vocals are complimented by her electronic embellishments.

In recent years both John and Nahneen had suddenly lost their fathers. A precarious time in both their lives they entertained and inspirited one another. The song that sparked the entire album, “Unbrella,” is a memorial inspired by a heart-to-heart they shared on the irony of beautiful weather on days of utter sorrow.

The album as a whole reflects their peculiar sense of humor and the light heartedness of their relationship. In jests of their days together emerged imaginary creatures of which Nagle first illustrated in acrylic paintings as gifts to Nahneen. They have become the official mascots of the album and have snuck their way into the soundtrack—some of which are also featured on the cover: a shrimp that awkwardly floats about outer-space and a fish that flies through the air in a lustful search for bun like objects, better known as the bunfish.

Not all romances last for ever but then again not all romances end with lasting friendship—and still, not all romances become a musical collaboration. The last few tracks are revealing of this time when the zany boy and precocious girl end their love affair. Finally, as friends they set out to create Distractions.
