We've all been without over the last year but we've not been without good music. You can take away the dance floor but the drums keep on beating, the keys keep on playing and Dennis Quin and Edwin Oosterwal will keep on making prime time, thoroughbred, true-to-the-craft house music.

Two sides, two stories - as is always the case with these two long-time sparring partners - 'Without You' takes off where 'Piano Occasion' left us in 2019. A little more sincere and poignant in its hook but just as bubbly as it rekindles a classic sound that's rooted in Italo but super-charged by NYC.

The US influences run deep on 'Apollo', too. Bold as brass; the drums hit with Vasquez or Romero muscle while the subs, subtle chords and those cascades on the fills all smack like a Van Helden or Todd Terry b-side dub from back in the day. Total, unashamed pumping. Just like we all will be when the good times roll again.

Anton Pieete delivered one of 2013's Summer club smashes with his Rejected anthem 'Loner'. With the original already having been a firm favourite for label boss Joris Voorn since the spring, its infectious vocal and big funky bassline helped create an audience favourite and terrace hit. 

For 2014 Rejected are revisiting and reworking the original and have drafted in long time friend Kabale und Liebe to create his own vision of Loner. Stripping away the disco-glitter of the original he leads us on a deeper waltz, swept along by his own groove-heavy bassline and decorated with the originals spritely melody. 

On the flip fellow Rejected boss Edwin Oosterwal continues his excellent run of remixes by giving Loner a classic 90's New York vibe. Draped in the finest ivory and slinkiest bass, Edwin's Organ rework delivers next level freshness with a perfect dash of old school flavour.

Its a been a while, but Rejected boss Edwin Oosterwal finally returns, alongside Woodie S, with a brand new single, Missing, and a nagging piano riff that just won't let go. 

Having had the idea for a track in his mind for some time, but more than aware of his limited experience at the piano, Edwin was on the hunt for a player. Step forward Woodie S. "Wout had already blown us away with his incredible playing on the Pitto single 'Shadows', and was the perfect choice to help me with the track" says Edwin. 

Joining forces the Dutchmen created a version that was put through the Rejected test run of both Edwin and fellow label boss Joris Voorn. The wonderfully hypnotic and annoyingly catchy piano melody of Woodie S, dances likes a sprite over the bouncing tech beats of Edwin, on an original track that has ended up far removed from the original blueprint of the record. 

Which leads us to the remix. "Whilst I love the original and have seen how well it works on the floor, I also wanted to try and get closer to my very first ideas for the record" says Edwin. 

Their remix gives the record of a beautifully laid-back beach-house feel. The keys are tended with an added jazz and the chords are smooth as silk. Sunshine vibes all round.

In very much the same vein as their remix package of Ian Pooley’s 'Chord Memory' from last year, Edwin Oosterwal and Joris Voorn’s Rejected imprint have unearthed and returned to somewhat of a cult classic in the form of Eric de Man’s ‘For Sunking’. 

Originally released under his Astrophunk guise all the way back in 1998, the original had instant and emphatic impact. “I produced the track in its entirity on my MPC 3000 and then recorded it directly onto DAT” says Eric. “Who needs mixers anyway, ha. I remember that i gave a promo copy to Derrick May, when he played Holland, and he asked if he could play it there and then. He dropped it next track. My favourite memory ever!”

May went on to champion ’For Sunking’, aiding it in becoming a ‘go to’ record for so many on the underground. Fast forward to 2015 and a mention of the track that lead to Rejected boss Oosterwal crafting his own edit. His rework grabbed the attention of Boris Werner and Melon and before long a plan was hatched for a full remix release. 

REJ044 is lead by Edwin’s respectful and most potent edit of Eric’s original. Melon goes heavy and hypnotising on the filters in his Sex Strip mix, before Boris closes the release with his smooth and yet sleazy rework. A trio of superb revisions of an already ageless classic.

Its a swift return to his label, as an artist, for Edwin Oosterwal. Having seen his Dub mix of Daniel Dubb’s ‘Rain & Rhythm’ stand tall as a favourite for many on April’s Remix package, this time the Rejected boss takes centre stage with his new double-header ‘Vamp’ / ‘Get On’.

With Edwin personally drawn to the more minimal and repetitive side of electronic music, its no surprise to find that the title track ‘Vamp’ is not only named after a repeating musical figure, but also takes a simple, uncluttered and yet wholly effective musical form. Deep, delicate and completely hypnotic, ’Vamp’ is a fantastic dancefloor tool.

From deep and delicate to bold and bouyant. Get On, our B Side, is equally non-fussy with its bulbous bassline and repeated vocal. Primed for some playful looping, Get On is set to become the DJ’s favourite friend.

Fresh from his recent collab release on John Digweed’s Bedrock imprint, Martin Eyerer returns to Rejected to fly solo and follow up his popular 2015 outing ‘The Metro’ with two fresh productions, ‘Run Stop’ and ‘Troja’.

The lead track with its commanding vocal is a hypnotic tech tool with its mesmeric and metronomic beats and shadowy synth chords enticing the listener. Label boss Edwin Oosterwal delivers a more arid take on the original, bringing the vocal to the fore and swelling the beats.

Synth chords flourish further on Martin’s ‘Troja’. Its warm purring bass and percussive beats are soon bathed in an enchanting synth melody that lifts us higher and caps another impressive Rejected offering from Eyerer.

Following the success of ‘Vamp’ last year, Rejected co-boss Edwin Oosterwal returns to the controls for two more pristine, floor-focussed late night grooves.

First up is a homage to Chicago’s deepest foundations and the warehouse-shaking legacy of Jesse Saunders’ Dance Mania. Lean and direct; “Bleep” is all about the relentless jack, palpitating sub and crazed lead tone that tweaks and freaks with visceral effect. Its minimal construction but hooky riff ensure slay-status at festivals and Ibiza this summer.

As with previous Oosterwal dispatches, contrast is key. Keeping his sound firmly in the US but travelling due west to Jersey, the warm organ-primed tones of ‘Babe’ soothe the ‘Bleep’-sizzled edges of our soul as a driving, loopy vocal sample and shimmering synths develop more and more momentum, developing into a deep hypnotic heads-down groove.

Consummately covering two completely different shades of the night with two cuts beginning with B, Edwin has delivered some A* cuts right here. Reject them at your peril.

Almost a year to the day that he brought us his Contemporay Thoughts, Israel’s Gel Abril returns to Rejected with a brace of tracks that see him in a more reflective mood ...

Having recently launched his own label, Closed Circuits, as a conduit for his own deep and undulating sounds, he again explores the minimal, hypnotic and insistent grooves that have become the trademark of his own kinetic adventures behind the decks on his latest tracks ‘Back Up’ and ‘Alphabet’.

“I had fun working on these, it felt like a natural flow after my latest release "They Groovers" and its sort of looking back to my musical roots."

Backing Gel’s originals is Rejected boss Edwin Oosterwal who turns in another of his fine reworks, adding some bounce and pushing the tempo on the title track. Back Up people!

Oosterwal is digging deep into the foundations right now. Hot on the heels of Dance Mania homage ‘Bleep’, the Rejected co-boss remains focused on the roots with two more Chicago-esque floor-heaters that nod to the seminal indelible legacy of Trax in their stark, direct ways.

‘Elasticity’ is a visceral and robust construction where the angular bass hook is constantly modulating and articulating, mirroring the drum elements. As well as tapping into the warehouse-crumbling sounds of Hardy, it could also be likened to ‘Erotic Discourse’ with its metallic oscillations. A powerfully lean piece in isolation or a show-stopping mixing tool, either way, ‘Elastic’ can stretch minds at 50 paces.

Everything you need to know about ‘Let There Be House’ is hinted in the title. The quintessential sound of the mothergroove boiled down to its core groove fundamentals. Humanised rhythm hits, sexy rim-shots, staccato claps and a rubber ball bassline that disappears and bounces back with even more funk on every section... This sings to every generation with a universal groove soul and a hook that sits so well in pretty much any mix combination you can dream up. Let there be more... Soon.

When he’s not saving Southern Australia with his Tesla built batteries, American entrepreneur Elon Musk is providing musical inspiration for Rejected’s first release of 2018.

Drawn to the studio in what he describes as a ’sci-fi mood’ after viewing a documentary on Musk’s experimental companies, Dutch producer MULDER hit a strain of rapid creativity himself. “After I found the kick and bassline, the rest of the track developed very naturally and was completed in just a few hours.”

Evoking memories of classic GU moments, ‘Elon’ opens with swirling synths, bubbling bass and glistening percussion. Warm yet scything chords enter mid way and together with its vocal runs the track delivers a classic and emotive dance-floor feeling.

Rejected boss Edwin Oosterwal continues his strong run of Dubs with another tightly locked and hypnotic offering. Strong filter action and stunning claps make this an essential selection.

Mulder - Elon (Edwin Oosterwal Dub)

Rekindling their prolific and productive partnership, Poker Flat Recordings label boss Steve Bug teams up with Clemens Kahlcke aka Cle for another important release. The pair go way back, having being friends, DJ colleagues, co producers and label mates for over 20 years. 

Their latest release on Poker Flat, shows they have continued to bring out the best in each other. 'It's Time', the title track, kicks off in fine style - a solid, urgent groove sets the tone, before sharp claps, a thick bass pulse and classic house stabs add the flavour. The pair clearly know how to work a floor. 

Dutch friend and collaborator Edwin Oosterwal brings his own take for the dub version - adding layers of slick percussion and developing the synth melodies into an urgent, upfront proposition.The influence of classic Detroit techno is clear to see. 

Last but not least, the guys pull another rabbit out of the hat with the final track 'Ritual' - their signature infectious rhythms combine a slowly evolving melodic motif which builds and builds in to a true dance floor heater.

‘Piano Occasion’ will tickle your innermost keys with its timeless, unhurried build. A little filtered, a little Italian, a little UK; Quin and Oosterwal subvert the archetypal house blueprint with their own flow, momentum and sheer moments of bliss. 

‘Synth Seller’ is the ultimate key change. Strident, hooky, broader than broadway: its stately bounce and waspy metallic riff fuse in a neat tech hybrid that kicks to a house heartbeat. Don’t get high off your own synth supply… Get high off Dennis and Edwin’s. Time to mark the occasion.

Native-Detroiter Terrence Dixon‘s longtime alliance with Godfather of Techno Juan Atkins has helped forge his own powerful sound in the world of minimal Techno. Originally released on Claude Young’s Utensil Records in 1995. Both Sino (Hong-Kong) and Thema (New-York) join hands to re-release this classic which many consider as one of the early foundation in the minimal techno movement. Thema presents part 1 featuring remixes by Mike Huckaby, Silent Servant and DVS1. Sino presents part 2 featuring two remixes by Ben Klock and one by Edwin Oosterwal (Rejected).

Edwin Oosterwal is driven by timeless soul-laced house and techno. A DJ with over 25 years of stripes, including residencies at iconic Amsterdam clubs Trouw and Studio 80, past performances at key festivals such as Awakenings and Mysteryland and world class clubs from fabric to Berghain | Panorama Bar, his ability to fuse between house and techno hits with an insatiable jacking energy. He has a knack of weaving stark stripped-back troughs and dizzying physical peaks; a dark art that’s reflected in everything else he does.

As a label co-boss behind Rejected and Spectrum (imprints he founded with Joris Voorn), the output is characterised by direct dancefloor tracks laced with longevity. Releases come courtesy of an array of respected acts ranging from Josh Butler to Deetron via Ian Pooley, Steve Bug and of course Edwin himself.

As a producer, Edwin’s taken his time to truly hone his craft and steadily build a sonic signature that resonates through house, techno and all the artful shades between and has been supported by the likes of Loco Dice, Eats Everything and Kölsch.
