Somov Records head Ignez is up next with an unmissable techno number that’ll make you sweat. A younger self dropped the stuffy confines of his childhood on the Dutch coast and fled to Berlin as so many do, and there began to cultivate a sound that has placed him firmly among some of his talented and much talked about peers. The DJ/producer credits the seaside upbringing with instilling a deep respect for the rolling tides and endless sands, natural references that are deeply embodied in his hypnotising and immersive rhythms. His occasional return to home turf as resident of Amsterdam-based party series Eerste Communie has also played a significant role in his musical development and found him willing publishers in the likes of Token and SK_eleven, as well as a sparring partner in Berlin heavyweight Rødhåd (with whom he shares two EPs). It’s techno in purest form, bewitching loops that pulsate like those long ago shores. In that sound his ascetic beats are flanked by the most minimal detail and rely on raw percussive might to mesmerise his listener. A dancefloor portal to another world; transcendent stuff for sure. From small club settings to festivals on a larger scale Ignez brings a kind of magic that’s hard to turn a deaf ear to, Bassiani Podcast 220’s proof that he’ll pull those tricks at home too. A hour of virgin, mechanical beats that daze and enthral, a staunch reminder of techno’s visceral power and of why, for so many, it’s such a ruling passion.

Stockholm-born DJ, producer and label member Joel Mull has spent over three decades shaping the global techno landscape, being recognised as a key figure in the pioneering wave of Swedish techno artists. Joel is renowned for his versatility, working under multiple aliases: Icarus, Gotzkowsky and most recently, Damm, where he channels his passion for ambient and electronica. As a member and contributor of the Swedish label Parabel, Joel continues to innovate the scene with his emotive and melodic productions. 

Joel’s productions evoke a sense of nostalgia, blending deep, downtempo rolling basslines with ethereal ambient textures and harmonic synths. This mix is driving, uptempo and seamlessly fuses rhythms with intricate synth melodies.

BASEMENT introduces BASEMENT Archives, a new podcast series highlighting standout sets recorded live in the club. 

First up is the impromptu b2b2b2b from Fadi Mohem, Kancheli, NDRX and Philippa Pacho that closed out last April’s Bassiani takeover. If you were there, you know how special this night was. Ten minutes before we planned to wrap the night, it was decided that the music simply could not stop. The four artists took over the booth in BASEMENT, and what resulted was 3 hours of euphoric techno that sent everyone out on an incredible high. These are moments that can’t be planned, curated or recreated. When they happen, you pray the recorder is on and running. Thank god it was.

For this next number comes Amsterdam-based DJ/Producer Grace Dahl, a top-notch talent with a techno heritage. Some of her early years were spent listening to her dad spin records in Spain (the place her rave-loving Hungarian father and Finnish mother then called home), a teasing precursor to subsequent chapters in her tale. A later date saw her move to the Dutch capital: here at 18, she started playing local venues, refining her method and catching the eye of stalwart party series Vault Sessions, where she took up a high-octane residency. In the decade since the pieces have really fallen into place: she’s played Berghain, Awakenings, Boiler Room and a notorious b2b set with her dad at Amsterdam’s Basis. She’s also released her debut EP Dark Side of Desire and a number of follow ups on labels like Amelie Lens’ EXHALE and Frenzy Recordings. Moving forward to the speed of her productions, her very own imprint SDT (Serial Disc Touchers) saw daylight in 2024, a channel for her unfolding prophecy, featuring familiar names like François X and Julian Müller. And it’s a good one. Her sound skims across hard groove and traditional techno, rolling bouts of rhythm and sound that offer a palette you have to feel in the gut. It’s hypnotic, powerful, frenzied stuff, a cavalcade of masterful beats that won’t slow down for a soul. For Bassiani Podcast 256, Dahl brings every one of her razor sharp wits to the table and delivers an hour long blend of staggering scale, pure-blood techno made to measure from her studio base.

For the second edition of BASEMENT’s Archives series, we’re sharing this outstanding recording of Nebbieri from the venue’s 6th anniversary party on April 26th, 2025.

Nebbieri is a resident of Bassiani - a club with close ties to BASEMENT - and as such has always shared a special connection with the room. Playing alongside MARRØN and LYDO, Nebbieri delivered a proper journey set. At times, she opens up a portal to spacious, soaring techno, elsewhere submerging the mix in pure filth. The anniversary parties are always standouts, and Nebbieri took the room over the top with this one.

Right on cue to support the release of his newest EP on SK_eleven, here comes Manchester via Berlin's own Setaoc Mass with a banger of a mix to break June in proper, pedal to the metal. Exponent of a sound both intrinsically rugged yet layered to mind-altering effect, the British producer has been dishing out unstoppable slices of hi-velocity techno laced with a signature stripped-back, psychedelic edge. This new RYC podcast doesn’t veer off from such a direction and we’re graced with a two-hour mind trip boasting both bass-driven warehouse impact and an elegantly-woven tapestry of abrasive grooves, leaning by turn towards atmospheric elation and on other occasions pushing in the direction of utter fibrous, steel-coated industrial pound.
