A Sunday afternoon delight from two of techno's most beloved heavy-hitters arrives exclusively on our Soundcloud.

Berlin techno viking and founder of Dystopian Records Rødhåd and the young, accomplished and Mote-Evolver regular Rene Wise have released their 4 hour set recording from March 2023, a huge B2B session that saw the pair delve in and out of eachother’s company for our last Continuum party. They played an extended set during the final Continuum 24+hour party of the season this Spring. 

The session, which started at 4pm as the tail end of the afternoon drew in and went on til 8pm ahead of a closing set from Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann, proved to be one of our highlights from the event. It's a real treat to be able to share the full recording; smashers from the get-go that takes us through the hard and heavy, to the atmospheric and energetic.

Lock in below and transport to the incomparable energy of Room 1 on a Sunday afternoon. Sometimes, we reckon, there's no place like it.

After I‘ve met like-minded people whom I call good friends today I started to learn producing and mixing techno tracks. Since then I‘ve managed to release some of my own productions in a digital as well as physical format and new cuts will come out soon as well’

From Europe’s southern tip in the Gibraltar-facing port city of Algeciras comes ORBE, the Spanish techno enthusiast whose potent beats have hammered out a pedigree path both as DJ and producer. Prevailing winds carried Fernando Sanz first to Seville to study sound engineering, later to Madrid where the fertile scene allowed him to build a community of music-minded friends that have put that city squarely on the map. Under these conditions, his work (what he terms a means of ‘contacting the future, the avant-garde’) has developed into something much deeper and more sophisticated. His love of artists like Brian Eno and Boards of Canada, and roots in breakbeat and drum and bass have informed a style that’s allowed him to take up the mantle as one of Spain’s most interesting talents. Under his self-titled record label (est. 2014) come his signature killer tunes, and in his work with names like Eduardo de la Calle and labels like Token, Hivern Discs, Axis and Mote Evolver a pole position at the forefront of modern techno. Fresh off his set on the Bassiani floor (14th March) comes this next Bassiani mix. Tensile rhythms that lurch ahead with supernatural power, an involute web of intelligent sounds that attest to his skill as selector. Bassiani Podcast 254 is an hour-long mash up of elfin beats, a vibrating hymn to the sounds of tomorrow, Orbe at the top of his game.

Right on cue to support the release of his newest EP on SK_eleven, here comes Manchester via Berlin's own Setaoc Mass with a banger of a mix to break June in proper, pedal to the metal. Exponent of a sound both intrinsically rugged yet layered to mind-altering effect, the British producer has been dishing out unstoppable slices of hi-velocity techno laced with a signature stripped-back, psychedelic edge. This new RYC podcast doesn’t veer off from such a direction and we’re graced with a two-hour mind trip boasting both bass-driven warehouse impact and an elegantly-woven tapestry of abrasive grooves, leaning by turn towards atmospheric elation and on other occasions pushing in the direction of utter fibrous, steel-coated industrial pound. The result is a wilder than wild ride down a smouldering pit of acid-washed hard hitters. Brutal.

Championing a sound both rugged and trance-inducing, Porto-based Brazilian producer Marcal clocks in this week with two hours blending future-proof warehouse rave material and claustrophobic 4x4 maneuvers. Hot on the heels of his latest ’Nature of the Future’ EP on Donato Dozzy and Neel’s imprint Spazio Disponibile, Marcal takes us on a mind-bending ride down raucous sine-scapes and brooding, verbed-out atmospheres, constantly pushing the envelope of techno as can be experienced these days. Resuming its course as a means for transcending our (currently much gloomy) zeitgeist, techno here gets back on its revolution-friendly tracks, finding its second breath as a metamorphic tool for blazing new paths and routes towards a better, more intelligently designed world. There goes a mix that summons the very finest of Marcal’s boundary-pushing vision and killer knack for crafting memorable and emancipatory floor narratives. Brace yourselves.
