Midwest-bred, LA-based EEZIR makes a return appearance on Detroit Underground with his Tilting Trail EP, a psychedelic romp through canyons of bass and shards of beats.

Picture yourself in the title track, Tilting Trail, as a videogame character bobbing and weaving between the smoking ruins of post-Skynet nuclear earth while dodging sonic bombs and lasers. By the second track, Shadows, the eerie metallic whispers of post-apocalyptic ghosts induce paranoia as the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. As you wander into the dark tunnel of Freelease, the sense of menace grows as a stomping, screaming, black steel monstrosity confronts you while beyond it, you can just make out the light of day waiting for you, should you survive.

EEZIR makes beautiful, broken soundscapes akin to John Carpenter making electro-bass music with the broken skulls of Terminators and the innards of 80s video game consoles.

Tilting Trail EP

The latest from Los Angeles-based producer Eric Hanson’s shape-shifting EEZIR alias is a six-track EP of knob-friendly liquid electronics and “headfuck journey music:” Modulated Movement. Born of long, loose lockdown sessions with the Arturia DrumBrute Impact drum machine, he tracked rhythms first, then layered in expressive live takes on various analog synthesizers. The result is a rich, restless fusion of electro, techno, and futurist industrial moods, spiced with skippy claps, spiral acid, and “balls to the wall 90’s shit.”

Hanson’s process is stream-of-consciousness, intuitive, and overtly therapeutic: “If I’m having a shit day, I blast it out.” His professional work as a mastering engineer and audio quality control specialist has both sharpened and shaped his listening skills; when a texture or melodic phrase catches his ear, he lets it lead the way, side-winding and unfolding according to its own hidden logic: “The emotional moment is what people connect to. I’ve learned to not get in the way anymore.” From the regal squelch of “Blossom Brigade” to the aerial cyber jack of closing anthem “Grinner Groove,” this is music of immediacy and discovery, attuned to the mysteries of sonic synergy and “the sound of things at first not apparent.”

East Pasadena producer, mastering engineer, and professional audio assessor Eric Hanson’s work as EEZIR straddles the line between cyber-electro, bass music, and psychedelic techno, conjuring futurist worlds and wormholes as well as careening within them. His latest EP, Pulse Response, effectively extends and evolves this tactic. Following a pair of frenetic collections for Midwest electronic institution Detroit Underground, these five new tracks emerged in the wake of several uniquely transitional years, with relationships, residences, and live rigs all in flux.

Such whirlwinds of change helped deepen these designs into dense, expansive odysseys of rhythm and texture, evoking a cosmos of vibes and visions, from acid-spitting monsters to marching robot legions to “gnarly asteroids” to celestial vistas. The tracks churn and jack and spiral, alternately snarling and swirling, equally ideal for dance floors or dystopias. Hanson titled the release after music’s crucial restorative role in his life: “It’s my healing pulse, and an emotional response, connecting me to myself.” This connectivity and intensity glimmers in every contour of sculpted synthetic terrain, serving as both map and mirror of its maker.

This 60 bpm 432 Hz tuned 7 Chakra Sound Bath was created to calm, balance and revive your well–being.  Analog synthesizer drones and a sampler were used to play the keynote and element ov each chakra in succession along with sounds ov the planet Jupiter, Neptune and Uranus for the 5th - 7th chakras. Starting at the root chakra, each part is ≈ 4:28 minutes for a total frequency voyage ov ≈ 30 minutes.  

If you're not familiar with a sound bath, here's some basic tips:
- Set aside the time to be able to have an uninterrupted session
- Take a few deep breaths and get relaxed before beginning
- I find that it's most effective laying flat on your back with a mat or blanket to lay on, or whatever else to make you comfortable
- This is best experienced with a subwoofer and nice pair ov monitor speakers.  Any speakers will work, but due to the full range ov low to high frequencies, a sub and good monitors spaced apart for an immersive stereo image are ideal.  If you only have small speakers, placing them on the floor will be helpful to feel the frequencies more if desired.
- Once comfortable, just let the sounds flow over you and enjoy the healing power ov sound!
