Soft Rocks continue their prestigious anglo-Australian exchange program with the long-awaited Kinfolk number 9, another must-have barn burner from a couple of Melbourne's finest. Representing two of the hottest crews from south of the equator, Nick Murray of Animals Dancing / Otologic and Power Station's Kris Baha combine like Voltron for a fierce four tracker for free spirits. It's time to pull out your Ray Bans and roll up those sleeves, as "Bonzai Sunset" here premiered sees the boys paying homage to Jan Hammer and Ryuichi Sakamoto with a sunblushed Fairlight funk bomb beamed forward in time from a Baldelli cosmic tape. Boasting a rolling bass groove, synth marimba, zero gravity sequences and frazzled guitars, this jam's a one way ticket to the freakiest dancing. Already out!

Efficient Space continues to expose Australia’s esoteric musical history with Oz Waves - a collection of 80s DIY recordings, compiled by odd wave anthropologist Steele Bonus. Definitive proof that inhabitants of the Down Underground were links in a global network of creative kooks, Oz Waves connects those who utilised mobile recording rigs and small press releases to create and disseminate misfit synth-punk, tape loop experiments and inner city pop. Through overseas mail order exchanges, anonymous groups like Zerox Dreamflesh could find place on Belgian compilations, while Chris and Cosey lullabied their son to sleep with Irena Xero and her interdisciplinary art collective Zip.   

Bonus selects 10 survivors from this fertile period (1982-1989), most of which were only issued on cassette in tiny editions of 5 to 100 copies. M Squared affiliates Prod join the extraterrestrial Software Seduction, minimal wave neglect from He Dark Age and the irreverent cut ups of The Horse He's Sick and MK Ultra & the Assassins of Light. The remaining tracks have been sourced from musicians’ private archives and are being officially released on Oz Waves for the first time - Andy Rantzen’s industrial dub Itch-E & Scratch-E precursor, the buoyant vocal-drone of Ironing Music and Moral Fibro, Sydney’s short lived answer to Weekend and Marine Girls. With detailed track by track notes, lines are drawn to Severed Heads, Scattered Order and other antipodean post-punk royalty.   

As a DJ, Steele Bonus has gained notoriety via the exquisite selections that form his ongoing mix series Odd Waves. Sydney-born, Amsterdam-based, his graphic design has not only been responsible for sleeves on Efficient Space, but also trusted Amsterdam connoisseurs Music From Memory and Young Marco’s Safe Trip.

Fewer things get us more excited than a Credit 00 track to Premiere, after the beasts that was the Metal Box EP his own Rat Life Records or Game Over LP on Uncanny Valley, he's back, this time on Bordello a Parigi with a killer, and it's fair to say with his latest offering that Big Beat is back!  Credit 00 is on form, on fire and on top of his game. 
Bordello a Parigi have a hit on their hand as they release Cruisin' which could easily be a lost Chemical Brothers B side from the early 90s. Coming on like a forgotten Ibiza classic buried in the bottom of your record box just begging to be remembered. 
Cruisin' evokes that 90s sound, whether it reminds you of Madchester, Cafe Mambo or the Conchord in Brighton, it's an absolute must hear from a quality artist on a quality label.

It was a place for temporary visions that turned out to happen and were then forgotten. It was always a place to find a new circle of friends. First up is the wonky, rugged flanger jam Okända Skäl (Reasons Unknown) then comes the spesh slow burner Ensamma Stunder (Lonely Moments). This doozy of a 7" is very much about his place of birth in Skåne. With the art inspired by a cave painting and a megalithic monument from the iron age close to his mum's house. Life goes in circles…

Tribes 1.1’ by Weird Dust is the third release by Brussels-based label and vinyl purveyor Crevette Records. The six tracks reflect an eclectic taste in hardware, melding organic and heavily processed sounds into a sort of musical retro-futurism. The percussion distinguishes itself, simultaneously free-form and mathematical, and certain to make you dance. Up close, ‘Tribes’ gestures at something alien, like going back to the jungle, but on another planet. This is what the future was like; notice the weird dust all around you.

Wilson Tanner (Andras and Eleventeen Eston) return to shore with II - a new album of floating melodies, lightly salted. The 12 min odyssey Killcord Pts I-III battens down the hatches as these sailors eye merciless waves and blinding ocean spray, channelling Berlin-school electronics and sea legs.

Wilson Tanner come to shore with a new album of floating melodies, lightly salted. Throwing electroacoustic conventions overboard, Andrew Wilson (Andras) and John Tanner (Eleventeen Eston) recorded this new work aboard a 1950s riverboat with a resourceful array of weatherproof electronic instruments and a long extension lead. These eight compositions pull in a by-catch of maritime folklore; of Siren and Selkie, Seagull and engine oil slick. A change of course from their debut album 69 (Growing Bin Records, 2016), the ambient temperature drops as II casts out to sea in uncertain weather and returns to the safe harbours of Port Phillip Bay. 

The seafarers head out to My Gull’s poised optimism. The birds watch but do they listen? By the arrival of Loch and Key, the shoreline has dissolved completely, the boat floating in serene infinity as the rest of the world spins. Conditions soon take a treacherous turn on Killcord Pts I-III - a 12 minute odyssey that battens down the hatches as these sailors eye merciless waves and blinding ocean spray, jointly channelling Berlin-school electronics and sea legs. In the aftermath, the waterlogged bleeps of Idle survey the damage as our parched crew sound the distress signal and ultimately descend into delirium. 

Known for navigating individual courses as solo musicians, Wilson and Tanner’s collective storytelling is saturated in detail, buoying between tension and harmony. II modestly stands as some of both artists’ most accomplished material.

Three emotional years in the making, Be With and Efficient Space finally present Steve Hiett’s Girls In The Grass. Pressed alongside the long awaited reissue of his one-shot masterpiece Down On The Road By The Beach, these ten balearic soul instrumentals are of equal necessity; unrivalled beauty rescued from the fashion photographer-guitarist’s Paris Tapes (1986-1997). 

While recordings unintended for release should often be approached with caution, this is a rare case of unheard material being assembled as an indispensable and coherent piece. Girls In The Grass is something super special. The light and shadow that defines Hiett’s music is arguably more compelling here. It speaks to us in a language that feels profound, yet entirely comforting and familiar. 

Girls In The Grass reintroduces Hiett’s languid electric blues boogie, crafted on Saturday afternoons with fellow art director Simon Kentish. Kentish would cook, pour some wine and then utilise his arsenal of technology. He’d dial up a chugging rhythm, together with some ambient pads or keyboard textures, and anchor the weightless gauze of Hiett’s six-stringed touch. 

Hiett’s guitar sings with the same clean, crisp tone as Down On The Road, animated by a carefree weekend groove. Unlike his defining album which was boiled under pressure, these subsequent sessions have all the time in the world. The naïve melodies chart a missing link between Vini Reilly’s ventures into electronica and Booker T, sounding like sun-warped takes on wordless, fractured non-hits from his heroes The Beach Boys. 

Remastered for public pleasure by Simon Francis, these private moments are adorned with Hiett’s singular photography and feature typically idiosyncratic liner notes from Mikey IQ Jones.

Inversions returns with an assemblage of miscellanea from the magnetic tape archives of Dunkelziffer and Phantom Band guitarist Dominik Von Senger. Capturing impromptu moments of between the scenes coaction amongst the likes of Reebop Kwaku Baah, Jaki Liebezeit and Dominik himself, to create an animated picture of his communal musical activities at Brüsseler Platz, during a fertile period for underground music and art in Cologne, and exhibit a mosaic of moods, from mirthful to meditative.
