In the middle of the night i know..i fell in love alone, and not for the first time, though we get such a short time. Oh GIVE ME THE COURAGE TO LOVE.
But the current was so strong and i went in and i went under, they say drowning is a good way to die. Give me that ecstasy. We counted 1,2,3, and i let go and i was carried away!

Too buoyant to stay down and drown alone, you rise in triumph, break the surface of this beautiful world/You're like a seal with your big sad eyes, your little head bobbing further and further away/ You watch him roll a cigarette and his hair ain't even wet, do you shout out? Do you shout out for the shore? No no no, let him ignore me. i want to get carried away!

The river rushes by so fast, the current is so strong here. The swimmers, they must walk upstream and let themselves be carried down, and the colour of it...it's unbelievable! It's baby blue & come-on green, glacial ice melting in the return of Spring.
A woman and two men, all in their 60s walk the river path upstream. Comfortable in their swimming togs, hanging easy over every seam. 
And I'm on the bridge, I'm on the bridge, I'm crossing over..
If i hang around I'll see how they handle it when they come down this river.
Here they come! Their 3 heads bobbing in a triangle down the river's middle course
Where the water rushes fast and wild, but they've done this all before.
Arms gracefully paddling, three voices raised in amiable conversation.
so casual above the river's turbulence and argument and agitation.
And i wonder at them, i wonder how they're keeping it so cool
give me courage and another chance; I'm gonna shout out like a fool!

A brand new song, so new that it has neither title nor anything yet...
but yeah, I was jamming with banjo and microkorg and this came out.
It's a live loop-recording, meaning: I just had my phone next to the amp to record. So please excuse that it's not very round at all yet (and you can hear the footswitch of the pedal).

Live-looping, indie-pop phenomenon Phia presents ‘Oxide’ – the first single from her new EP ‘The Woman Who Counted The Stars’ (out 29 September via Labelship / Independent).

The track is all glitter and grit, and heralds the arrival of a bold new sound for the Melbourne-born singer-songwriter. Pulsing, distorted drums and intergalactic juno synths collide with fuzz guitar and vintage casio keyboards, as Phia’s longtime production collaborator Joshua Teicher realises a sonic vision that manages to be both lush, raw, and emotionally affecting. Phia’s effortlessly charismatic, crystal-clear vocal soars.

The subject matter packs a punch, too. “Late last year Björk released a viral Facebook post about the criticism she and other female artists face when their subject matter departs from boyfriends and love songs, and encompasses atoms, galaxies or activism. I was enraged but also inspired, and the songs just started to come.” Phia says.

With Björk’s words still fresh in her ears, Phia chanced upon a newspaper article announcing that scientists had discovered 60,000-year-old bacteria alive in vast, sub-terranean Mexican caves. ‘Oxide’ is penned from the point-of-view of this ancient micro-organism.
