It’s pretty hard to describe anything from Burning Man without using phrases, sounding pathetic or cheesy. 
So maybe I shouldn’t try. Or I just don’t care about it?
Pablo asked for a little intro about my set in the tie-up night with Robot Heart when I played the Mayan Warrior art car, so here we go:
Every night, when the Mayan Warrior art car leaves its camp on it’s way to the deep playa it feels pretty sublime, like a wake up call for the rave kids with this drum beats, like a ritual where they follow it’s spiritual leader, the warrior dancer follow their flagship art car, it’s getting more and more crowded, surrounded by hundreds of bikes and of course I’m super nervous entering this elevated Dj booth, shaking from the bass or is it just me? And from one moment to another I am in the middle of lasers and fire, I am taking over the booth and after a second I’ve forgotten every fear and just start playing...

'It’s been a patient road to success for Anakim, the LA-based DJ and producer who has recently become a regular in the Beatport ‘Top 10’. His first taste of electronic music and DJ culture came ten years ago, when he attended Insomniac’s EDC Los Angeles - his first ever rave. From there, moving into DJing and music production felt like a natural progression. Soon after he enrolled at Icon Collective Music Production School, something Anakim insists was crucial to his musical development. “Attending Icon Collective in 2015 gave me the knowledge necessary to produce electronic music at an extremely high level,” he explains. “The school, my mentors, my teachers and especially my peers there were extremely influential in helping me develop my talent as a producer.”

He quickly honed in on a signature sound, which he coined as ‘intergalactic underground sounds’ due to the fact that his Icon peers didn’t understand his production style at the time. “I’d say I have honed a formidable style that is melodically rich and delightfully sinister,” he enthuses. “I mesh these hypnotic melodies with dark, driving rhythms, pulling listeners in with visceral tension before eruptive moments of energy that translate seamlessly from club to warehouses to festivals.”

Now all that was needed was a moniker to match the heavy, imposing music - something he found in the unlikeliest of places. “The Anakim are a race of giants from Biblical text,” he explains. “Folklore says they are a hybrid race mixed of human and Annunaki, a race of giants who live on Planet X, otherwise known as Nibiru. I felt the Anakim were a fantastic representation of what is colossal in size while having roots from Space, which my music is and does.”

The years since have been something of a whirlwind for Anakim. His first DJ gig ever was at acclaimed nightclub Sound in Los Angeles where he quickly found himself offered a residency slot. Anakim soon shared the same decks as ​Chris Liebing, Yotto, Lane 8, Booka Shade, and more. In late 2019, Anakim opened and closed for deadmau5’s testpilot project at Exchange LA, owned by Insomniac Events.

Releasing tracks on a slew of well-known labels, such as Mau5trap, Insomniac Records, EIN2 and Desert Hearts Black, his ascent through the electronic music ranks has rapidly accelerated of late. It’s a similar situation on the DJ front, with Anakim performing at the ​iconic Yuma Stage at Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival, Art of the Wild, Holy Ship, Beyond Wonderland, Nocturnal Wonderland and more.

Capping off a career-affirming 2019 by being named one of DJ Mag’s ‘Bubblin’ artists to watch, Anakim kicked off 2020 as one of Billboard Dance’s Emerging Artists who said “ Anakim is one of many next-generation DJs and producers who are keeping L.A.’s nightlife thriving”.

Continuing his ascent with an EP on Desert Hearts Black, supported by the likes of Sasha and John Digweed, ​Anakim​ is primed to take the new decade by storm.'
