I did this guest mix for @tannertrax's Aaja show towards the end of October, just shy of 6 months after I started learning to mix. He told me that I could play whatever I wanted which was music to my ears, and I did just that. 
This upload is just my mix, but if you head over to his SoundCloud you can hear the full show with Tanner playing for the first hour.

Guest mix for Tanner's Aaja Show - 20th October 2023

This is a short mix of tunes to relax to, perhaps on a sunny afternoon, perhaps after the club. I finish with a track by the incredible Daisy Godfrey, a wonderful human all round 💖 I also play La Luna by Ishinohana - their EP La Flor De Piedra is one of my favourite things to listen to after a night out, end to end. It takes you on an incredible journey, I highly recommend giving it a play. It was first released in 1986 on Grabaciones Accidentales and the brilliant Emotional Rescue re-released it in 2015, along with a digital version.

This mix is soft, dreamy and ethereal, and I hope you like it :)

Dreamy after hours mix

✨ Bonus mix this month! ✨This was something I recorded as a submission for NTS’s Metamorphosis-themed supporter series which called for mixes that featured transitions/transformation. They sadly didn’t want it but I’m very proud of it so here it is!

This is a house of horrors experience. It is called ‘In the Gunmetal Light’, a quotation from Cormac McCarthy’s ‘The Road’ which is one of the most dystopian books you’ll ever read. This mix is not for dancing and is instead a sonic journey that takes you from something that seems normal and familiar (or is it?) before plunging you into a dystopian landscape where the first thing you encounter is @deejaymosca ‘s Creature. It then ebbs and flows, taking you on a journey through simmering dread and flickers of hope before finally depositing you in the musical equivalent of the gift shop at the end where you can relax, knowing your journey has finished.

This is a mix for my friend Miranda. My mission with this mix was to show her some disco adjacent stuff that she might like, as she doesn’t like disco but was surprised to enjoy what I played at Joyride (which included a smattering of italo and dark disco). I didn’t have a plan when I set out, this is another just for fun mix. I may have tripped and fallen into some EBM 💁🏾‍♀️ oopsies. I had to win Miranda over and she favours a darker tune. I also played Cate Hortl’s brilliant ‘Sssss’ which I’ve played on my radio show and which I don’t think is disco or EBM. I love that track, the moment the lyrics kicked in my partner looked at me and said ‘Oh, your favourite snake song!’ Yes, yes it isssss 🐍

the butcher bird is a Sri Lankan‑born Scottish DJ and Voices Radio resident whose varied sound has been a fixture on the Norwich scene over the past year. Now back in London full time, she has played at Gonzo’s, Venue MOT and Corsica Studios. 

The mix opens with hard techno before moving into deeper, unpredictable tracks by Yas Reven/3Phaz and Deena Abdelwahed. It then dips into darker, atmospheric sounds and builds to euphoric, acid‑tinged highs before easing into varied rhythms that carry the dance floor home.
