Second release of the year already from the party music people of Abstrack. This time, it’s Brussels based artist Strapontin whose original production is on the menu, with re interpretation from several gifted companions. The multitude here is no excuse for genericity or easy recipes, rather a fertile playground for toying around with a wide range of vibes and moods.
Matches is a poetic, sensual spoken-word piece. The song feels like a flower about to blossom, though with plenty of hybrid DNA in it. In the end it leaves the way wide open for further emotions to get through. And they do.
Sasnal Park is the emotion of wander : looking for something forever, but for what? The drums make you believe that you found it but they turn out to be a mirage, and so does every tangible element of the track. A beautiful journey in the end even if you don’t know where you’ve been.
Family Diner … no ambiguity this time : a mystical roller as dark as it is trippy. Or maybe more trippy. Either way, not sure you can resist dancing to this one played out loud. Lose yourself to screaming halfway through, but only to fall back well rooted in those dancing feet afterwards.
On the flip, remixers put it where they’re expected to : A Strange Wedding takes the wandering “Sasnal Park” on the Edge of trancy club music, closer to the roots of Abstrack parties.

Melbourne-based producer Ruby Kerkhofs AKA Nice Girl has had a fruitful relationship with Munich's Public Possession over the last two years. First appearing on the label's 'Chill Pill' compilation in 2019, and its subsequent follow up in 2020, she then added a couple of solo outings to the list last year in the form of 'Take A Step' and 'Whistling Thorn'. Now she's returning to the imprint for her debut long player 'Ipsum'; a collection of organic electronic productions that range from meditative downtempo to sparse dub vibrations and hypnotic driving trance.

For the second Vinyl project, emerging Ukrainian musician Omon Breaker shares the stage with Berlin based Mala Junta Resident D.Dan.

The Split format is a musical dialogue between two worlds, backgrounds and histories. With Mala Junta resident and Seattle raised D.Dan on the A-Side and Kyiv based, Dnipro-born Omon Breaker on the B-side, the record aims to reflect on both their individual experiences and musical journeys, as an honest statement of their current works spanning across D.Dan’s high-energy Trance and groovy summer Techno towards the EBM and 90’s style influenced works of Omon Breaker.

Before the waiter brought the sherry the rocket that announced the fiesta went up in the square. It burst and there was a gray ball of smoke high up above the Theatre Gayarre, across on the other side of the plaza. The ball of smoke hung in the sky like a shrapnel burst, and as I watched, another rocket came up to it, trickling smoke in the bright sunlight. I saw the bright flash as it burst and another little cloud of smoke appeared. By the time the second rocket had burst there were so many people in the arcade, that had been empty a minute before, that the waiter, holding the bottle high up over his head, could hardly get through the crowd to our table. People were coming into the square from all sides, and down the street we heard the pipes and the fifes and the drums coming. They were playing the riau-riau music, the pipes shrill and the drums pounding, and behind them came the men and boys dancing. When the fifers stopped they all crouched down in the street, and when the reedpipes and the fifes shrilled, and the flat, dry, hollow drums tapped it out again, they all went up in the air dancing. In the crowd you saw only the heads and shoulders of the dancers going up and down.

We wait in the darkness for the signal to begin. I wonder what’s taking so long. Behind me, I hear somebody whispering. Our silky gowns are rustling softly as we, the graduating seniors, adjust our hats, hair, and nerves. We stand nervously in two lines that curve from the back of the auditorium, out into the hallway, and halfway up a flight of stairs. In alphabetical order for the very last time, the boys in gowns of navy blue, the girls in silver. I’m one of the first in line because I have to sit on the stage. Even though it’s hot, I’m shivering in the darkness while we wait for the lights to come up to announce the beginning of the ceremony. I close my eyes, but the darkness seems like it’s trying to grab me. I blink, and the shadows are breathing on my neck, chasing through my thoughts. I let the shadows walk me back through the last two years, through loss, pain, death, and humiliation. I’ve got dark memories of fire and blood running in slow motion through my head. I think about Rob, who died in a car crash in November of our junior year. I think about my Andy, my dear sweet Andy, who left me—left us all—the following April. And I try not to think about my own dark stain that I know will never be erased.
