Parquet Recordings Mixtape 14 by Marius Lehnert

Marius is one of the most talented and uprising DJ and Producer in our hometown Stuttgart. His love for music and vinyl were not only decisive factors for Marius Lehnert to establish himself as a DJ but are still the basis for his passionate work today. Marius attracted bigger attention for the first time through his residency in the notorious Club Rocker 33 in Stuttgart. 
Over the years, he consolidated his typical style which is always melodic-groovy and never without soul, no matter whether he supported one of the huge acts of the game or appeared as a headliner himself. In so doing, his musical spectrum ranges from Deep House and Tech House to rather technoid sounds.
In addition to being a DJ and promoter, Marius also focused more and more on producing electronic music over the last years.
Over the next years, some more releases followed on several labels, and a couple of tracks together with Arno Mueller on Parquet Recordings with international recognition. His track "Vere" was also part of the "Ten Years Parquet Recordings" anniversary compilation and was played all around the globe.

Release Info:
Ben Rau serves up the third release on his own label Inkal in October featuring two new original tracks by the rising star.
Berlin born Ben Rau is building on the huge success of the first two Inkal releases with two original tracks of his glitched out groove laden signature house sound. Rau has been steadily building his own brand throughout 2017 on his label Inkal, with each release on multiple represses the label is fast becoming synonymous with the type of house music that works equally for the underground vinyl heads and on the big festival stages.
The A-side Ad Astra is a rolling peak time number that marries a ravey lead stab with his trademark swinging hats and glitched out filter modulations over a thumping groove. The drop recalls 90’s drum and bass influences and soothing pads take the track into deeper territory. The drums are loose and jostle for attention as the ducking and diving lead synth bring real movement up top. One for the more tasteful sets out there.
Up next is Do Your Thing built around a rolling percussive tech-house groove and rumbling sub bass line, Ben brings in 303 licks and a female vox that urges you to “do your thing “ throughout the track. This roller makes a fine contrast to the swinging grooves of the A-side, dense atmosphere and deep chords compliment the other elements to form an infectious head nodding journey throughout the tracks 8 minute duration.
Once again Rau shows what an essential house producer he has become.

INTERVIEW

1. Why did you choose to become an artist?
"It wasn’t really an active choice for me to be honest but it rather came over me naturally. I just realized over time that I would feel better whenever I made music."

2. What do you want to express with your music?
"Emotions. For me, music is all about emotions as you can probably hear in this mixtape. There are these very special vibes which make feel something. And I love it when these feelings hit me."

3. What do you do to get into a creative state?
"Most important for the lazybones I am is probably routine; because you can't get into a creative state of mind when you don't actually try to create something, right? Waking up early, sitting down with a cup of coffee and just playing around. Sometimes I come up with the main idea of a new track, sometimes I just discover a hidden function of one of my synthesizers. Not every session has to lead to a new track - sometimes I just need to clear my head."

4. What, for you, is the purpose of art?
"I like to think of art as a kind of language, a language which is used to describe feelings which can't really be described with words. There are occasions where you encounter some piece of art and you kind of understand this certain language, it just resonates with you and sets you in a certain mood. And then there is art which you simply don't understand, which is trying to communicate with you in a different language."

5. You in 11 years?
"Well, I’m not a big fan of planning too far ahead. One year ago I couldn’t even imagine how much of an impact 2019 would have on me and my career. And that's just ONE year, so it's impossible for me to think 11 years ahead. I’m sure though that I’ll still get excited by creating and playing music - it’s just a huge part of me."
