Following on from Wally Lopez’s original, German-born, US-based artist Nhii takes the raw materials and adds his own distinctive twist. 

“It was a true honor to remix a track by the legendary Wally Lopez. From the very first listen, I felt inspired to reinterpret the original by morphing its melodic elements into a more percussive framework, giving the track a fresh rhythmic direction,” Nhii explains.

Neil Malkan, rising progressive house producer from India, makes his debut on our label with the release Collider. The original track is driven by dark basslines and a hypnotic lead throughout, delivering a powerful journey on the dancefloor. The release also features two remixes with a mature sound: Will DeKeizer (US) adds his deep and driving touch, while Greg Tomaz (India) strips it back with a refined, progressive rework. Together, the EP showcases versatility and marks a strong debut for Neil on the Shady&Friends roster.

Who would have thought that my gig in New York, which was already special anyway, would be the last one for an uncertain time. 

It‘s difficult to find the right words for what is happening around us right now. This crisis brings us all to our limits and yet it also shows us that we actually live a pretty privileged life, which we often don’t appreciate that sufficiently. However, my thoughts are with all those who really have to struggle currently. Let’s try to use this situation to come back even greater and stronger. 
I hope that with my set I can give you the chance to dive away a little and think about better times, which will definitely come again.

Tony Casanova | Trickster Night - New York | March 2020

Betoko & Paul Sawyer return to ICONYC with the remix edition of ''I'll Be Here' which also featured heavily as the title song of the first ICONYC TV season. The duo's last outings on the label were received to high acclaim – with big support from the big player's brigade at the time. With their long-awaited return we get a slice of spring vibes with 4 outstanding reworks of their classic anthem. Betoko kicks things off nicely with his interpretation, the melancholic moodiness of his rework shines through as we meander effortlessly through 80's inspired melodies, while the sultry chords and vocal sit wonderfully on top adding an extra layer of depth. 

The first remix comes courtesy of Blaktone, famed for their intricate and refined productions on labels such as Selador, Sincopat and Mango Alley to name a few. The duo delivers a great take on 'I'll be Here'. Their rework creates tension from the word go, as the atmospheric vibe subtly keeps you moving with warm tinkling sounds, a smooth techno edge and some nicely effected sounding pieces. We basically have the formula for a bit of a monumental outing. The sparseness is the key here, as this restrained gem works its magic while it plays away, creating a deep glow, creating an air of sophistication. 

Next up we welcome Berlin based Tony Casanova for his debut on the label. Tony who is known for his polished and driven sound, keeps the ethereal theme of the original alive, as the pulsating bass powers along, before its drum fills and general warmth all combine to do the talking. Like something from yesteryear, yet sounding fresh – Tony's touch up takes the energy levels up a notch, but increases the melancholy with stripped back and lucid elements at the same time, before the luscious pads grace the rework changing the vibe and creating a blanket of warmth that wraps around the effected groove. 

Last but not least we have a remix courtesy of MXV who returns to the label for the second time. The UK based producer delivers a wonderful floating deep mix with infectious chords, intense drums and smooth breakdown. It's all about the groove, silky house vibes and the despondent beats that are working their magic around MXV's wonderfully arranged keys that create an irresistible rhythm while clever chords take the mind on a trip. A truly beautiful cultivated rework. 

The remix edition of Betoko & Paul Sawyer's 'I'll Be Here' manages to deliver a message of sustained musical relevance in emphatic fashion to warm the soul. Not to be missed! 'I'll Be Here' sees a worldwide release on April 27th, 2020 via all well-known digital content providers. Not to be missed!

No Silence: In this track Mollono.Bass fills the aural space around the voice of singer Kuoko as if his groove was a liquid that flows around the contours of a mould. The Super Flu remix works just the other way around. First, the duo initiates a pulsating force field of bass and enigmatic hints of melody. The voice of Kuoko creates only fine ripples on the surface of the time-space-continuum, before it breaks through around the middle. Stephan Zovsky's remix of Your Smile draws a wonderful contrast to this deeply hypnotic atmosphere. As a close friend of Mollono.Bass he has a deep understanding of the melodic soul of the original, which enables him to translate this soul into his very own style in an extremely elegant way. Driven by open hi hats and the bite of the snare we're hurled into a bouncing state of collective euphoria where the corners of our mouths and our arms are pulled upwards by some sort of magnetic force.

Mira: "For the past ten years now, I’ve celebrated my birthdays by inviting all my favorite cats to play – we started off at Kater Holzig before moving to our home at Kater Blau in 2015. For the first time since it started, and for obvious reasons, 43 Katzen tanzen auf’m Tisch won’t be happening, on what would have been the tenth anniversary of the series. I’ve been wondering for a while now how I can make up for the missed year - streams already feel a bit outdated, and you just can’t imagine the vibe of the event without actually being there, getting beautifully lost in those days and nights, hugging old friends and making new ones. You can’t even explain that feeling, so you definitely can’t live-stream it.

Instead, this year 43 Katzen tanzen auf’m Tisch will be a compilation of some of the amazing artists from the past ten years, and even some of the new faces I would have booked this year. In a way, it’s the perfect souvenir of all the nights we’ve had so far, and an idea of what to look forward to in all the nights to come at Kater Blau somewhere in the future.

The compilation will be split into two sections: Heinz Hopper and Acidbogen, reflecting the two floors of Kater Blau, each with their own special flavor and sound. The whole record is programmed the way I would schedule the artists across the two floors for my birthday, warming up at the start before things start getting more intense later on. I guess you could say it’s a concept album, in which the audience
wanders into our lovely little circus on the river Spree, and experiences one of my birthdays from start to finish, split across both floors of Kater Blau. Much like my parties and my sets, the idea is for the listener to get lost in these tracks and to experience them as a whole piece. At the end of it all you leave with a feeling that maybe, just maybe, cats & music were the answers after all. Even in times like these."
