Founded by Carl Cox in 1998, over its long history Intec has turned out countless classics. A huge vehicle that fuelled dancefloors with quality cuts during its vinyl powered heyday, after a brief hiatus the operation was re-thought and re-launched for the digital realm in 2010 with Jon Rundell stepping up to the plate to help oversee the label and lend a hand to the A&R process. Encouraging their roster of established and emerging talent to draw on a new aspect of their production Intec Digital has welcomed something special from each one of their sounds. 

We first hosted Intec in Room One back in October 2013, an event which began a run of Thursday night sessions which have never failed to be brimming with the grand scale of energy that Cox and Rundell never fail to bring to a dancefloor. So, seeing that these have always been such memorable experiences, it made perfect sense to take full advantage of the upcoming Easter weekend (and the first Bank Holiday of the season) to bring Intec in for an all night long takeover of both Room One and Two enabling us to showcase more of the label's talent with a cast that includes Carl Cox, Jon Rundell, Carlo Lio, Monika Kruse, Marco Bailey & Harvey Mckay.

In the lead up to the event in question we've aligned some mixes from the artists set to come and express their sounds this Easter coming, starting today with an exclusive mix from techno stalwart Marco Bailey. Here he demonstrates his capacity for ramping up the energy levels between hypnotic states, a set sure to lock anyone into the groove of a dancefloor.

Tipped by a number of people - though most notably by Breach, who's released his recent music on his own Naked Naked imprint - the Brighton based Lorca is fast turning the right sort of heads. Appearing here in Room Three on Friday 17th April, we asked him if he wouldn't mind making us a mixtape which we could then use to better introduce him and the sorts of things he plays. That way it would learn us a little bit about him and give our readers something to connect with. Something extra to add a little splash of colour to the digital canvas that is, the internet. This? Justin Drake isn’t a name that necessarily arrives accompanied by the loudest of fanfares, however, he's an individual that commands a healthy slice of respect from the house community's inner circle. Known as a sound engineer, a producer (in his own right as well as half of ‘90s seminal act Peace Division alongside Clive Henry) and a DJ that produces consistently engaging selections, he prefers to go by the quality of his content rather than the hype when it comes to his musical expressions. Drake’s been invited by N.o.N's The Pushamann to join him in providing the sonic backdrop to their 4th birthday celebrations in Room Three this coming Saturday night (21st March) and, as he does best, he's laid down a mix which we think speaks volumes about his talent and the true nature of his sound.

The simplicity of the elements is the strength here - the creeping discord of the piano, the slow sub rolls - baked together with sharp drum boxes, space echoes and ADV's years of production wisdom.

The celestial Mr Fingers inspired tones of 'First Time' provide the flip.

What matters are the records. The ones that shaped Raphael ‘Raf Daddy’ Rundell and Joe Goodard when they met in the DJ booths of London. House music has buried itself within the roots of the best of us, but for these two it became more than just a fleeting hands in the air moment, it became The 2 Bears.

Honing their craft with all the care and attention paid to a well-groomed patch of facial hair, the duo have bounced from Brixton to Tel Aviv via Cape Town, sharing the decks ever since their fateful incarnation, delivering a memorable blend of house, techno, ragga and more to almost every continent. A bearded pilgrimage if you will, and one that has coloured in the bold dancefloor-centric shapes of their second album The Night Is Young.

Where debut smash Be Strong was rooted in their love for London, The Night Is Young takes on a more global vision. With a love for their home city still at its heart, the album pulls influences and experiences from across the world of dance music, drawing deeply from their trip to Africa last summer. As part of a project for Brixton based youth magazine Live, the duo played shows in Cape Town and Johannesburg and spent time recording in a studio run by BLKJKS’s Tsepang Ramoba. The lead vocals for Son Of The Sun were recorded there with a young singer called Sbusiso and Kwaito legend Senyaka, who also added his vocal to lead single Angel (Touch Me).

‘It’s very much like being in London driving around,’ says Raf of the album. ‘You get bored of the radio station very quickly and you switch from Kool to Vibes to Radio 4 or back to Tony Blackburn’s show on Radio 2. I love walking along Atlantic Road in Brixton. If you go there at the right time it’s a complete assault of sounds. People sawing off goat legs, playing Bhangra, someone selling Reggae mixtapes, someone selling Christian Soca... It’s an endless barrage and it’s kind of psychedelic.’

Speeding through multiple genres, often condensed into single tracks, The Night Is Young lifts The 2 Bear’s famed, eclectic DJ sets to higher realms, shifting the imperative to lose both body and mind distinctly up a gear. Currently mid-way through a residency at London’s XOYO, their innate ability to lead a party down multiple musical rabbit holes carefully joins a long-harbored desire to weave deeper thoughts and personal ideologies into their productions.

‘I love tunes that disguise things,’ says Joe. ‘A really sweet melody with a really dark sentiment. Money Man is meant to be like that, you can have those glossy reggae records that still say something. We didn’t want to just be in that culture of not saying anything, where it’s all a fantasy world and everyone just goes and gets fucked up but no one says anything.’
