The German pair has a sound that knows no bounds and breaks all rules. They tinker with music-making gear, draw from diverse musical influences and are underground mainstays with an enviable discography on numerous key labels.

The electrifying 'Astra' is awash with smart effects and filters that smudge and stretch a vocal over rising synth tension. The heavy drums jostle for your attention as the chord vamps twist and turn, ramping up the pressure as they go and building towards a dramatic breakdown. It locks you in the moment before setting off again on more tightly woven drums and synths. The Sasha Daydream Mix is a more blissed-out and late-night rework with shakers, floating drums and deft synth lines drifting about up top to soothing and atmospheric effect.

A strong desire to propel music into the next sonic century leads Ae:ther, gifting us with the futuristic ‘Stardancer’.

“‘Stardancer’–or the ballad of the stars–is a story soundtrack, a touch of world music, harsh melodies and sweet arpeggios that fit well with the Crosstown Rebels vision. ‘Ultravox’ is another piece of mine that was created on the coast of Tuscany. At the beginning, the song was a neoclassical project that was then combined with soft techno beats... the interpretation of the calm and the tempest of the Tyrrhenian Sea and distant lights from Elba that merge with the reflection of the night sky on the waves." ​- ​Ae:ther

The EP opens with ​Stardancer ​- an emotive and deeply mesmeric track that weaves together a twinkling and trance-like rhythm with a driving techno beat. On the flip, ​Ultravox ​builds with intensity, creating a cinematic ambience, balancing ethereal synths with a pounding beat.

Ae:ther ​has been an explorer of sound for many years. His study of sound design whilst living in Milan, enables him to add an extra layer of depth to his productions - experimental and ambient, yet still able to entice dancers to the floor. He’s had music signed to Tale Of Us’ Afterlife imprint and his productions have attracted the attention of Damian Lazarus who commissioned him to remix his single ​All I Need w​ ith the Ancient Moons. Lazarus has also signed Ae:ther’s debut album. 2019 is shaping up to be a big year for the Berlin-based producer with a new release on Afterlife in the pipeline as well as plans to unveil his spectacular live-show to the world.

PREMIERE : Avidus - Revenge Of The Whales (Avidus Crosstown Rework)

German duo Avidus bring their spellbinding style to Crosstown this March. The pair have conceived a four track EP that serves to showcase their unique sound.

Avidus have produced a mesmerising EP that submerges the listener in an intriguing sonic soundscape. Speaking of the creative process, they explain that “the first sketches of ‘XII’ and ‘Psalm 23’ were made in 2015/2016 during the process of producing tracks for our first live sets. The focus was on powerful elements that have an emotional impact on whoever was listening”. On title track XII prominent drums arise alongside dramatic strings that create a track full of suspense. Psalm 23 opens with an ethereal vocal sample that bleeds into a high-octane beat that’s pacing and intense. On the flip, “more recent tracks ‘Lux’ and the new edit of ‘Revenge of the Whales’ balance the EP out very nicely on an emotional level”. Lux is a dreamy and emotive number, calmer than its predecessors with a breathtaking breakdown, whilst last year’s Revenge Of The Whales gets a rework for Crosstown. Avidus conclude; “we’re proud to share this release”.

Hailing from Kiel in North Germany Fritz Wagner and Marc Wolf, aka Avidus, have forged a strong partnership over the years. Fritz began producing music in the late 90s, making Hip Hop beats and pop music before moving on to house. During his early years, Marc produced backing tracks for hardcore bands before DJ’ing at illegal, outdoor raves. He started his own night ENDVR at Kiel’s Luna Club, where he invited guest such as me, Roman Flügel, Barnt and Marcus Worgull. Their diverse musical tastes and influences are apparent in their music, which refuses to be confined to any one genre. The duo launched their own imprint Empore Music in 2014 that has charted releases from Johannes Albert amongst others.

We are turning the page of our next edition of 'Terra Incognita', the third edition full of different and diverse paths it can lead the listeners to. Starting we reveal Habischman - the experienced Iranian producer, releasing his music via top notch labels as Noir Music, Dubfire's SCI+TEC and Get Physical. 'Aperture' comes as a great opener, conjuncted as a delicate blend of vintage dub-chords, elegant vocals and dramatic, hypnotic synths. Italian producer Stephan Jolk, who is putting out his music lately with Hommage and Beatfreak Recordings, can definitely make the synthesizers breathe. His 'Overdub' is a perfect combination of the minimalistic approach to the world of melodies: the pulsing melodic themes are wisely placed into sharply produced strained beat, which are coming together as a great tune as a result. US based artist Enamour has shown himself as a very promising artist, working with the labels as Yoshitoshi and Anjunadeep, so the stated words of Enamour to be a 'a curator of dark, infectious grooves and wistful atmospheres' is perfectly describing this talented producer at his best. 'Pet Paradox' is a firm thing, lying somewhere between genres and far ahead trends. Argentinian Tomy Wahl delivers his stomper 'Matka' next on the line: a powerful bass shaped track with a dramatic piano breakdown and glitchy proper drums. We close a pack with 'Hong Kong Harbour' track from Netherlands based producer Tom Zeta (Diynamic, Einmusika, KATERMUKKE). This work, mainly exposing with the main detuned synth sound, is finishing the exploration of another Terra Incognita, which became known to you now.
