Eiko Tsukamoto is a Japanese composer currently based in Berlin. Prior to her formal composition studies, she studied philosophy in Tokyo and received private composition lessons from Toshio Hosokawa.
Tsukamoto has received commissions from KölnMusik, ON Neue Musik Köln, Tongyeong International Music Festival, WDR Köln, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Kunststiftung NRW, Korean Music Project, Fondation Royaumont, Haus für Poesie (Berlin) and Ensemble Berlin PianoPercussion. She has worked with orchestras and ensembles including Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Schlagquartett Köln, Exaudi Vocal Ensemble, Ensemble ascolta, Ensemble recherche and KNM Berlin.
Tsukamoto was the winner of Takefu Composition Award (2008) and nominated for the 22nd Akutagawa Composition Award (2012). In 2018 she won the main prize at the 7th Christoph Delz Foundation Competition for Composers. She received scholarships from Rohm Music Foundation (2013), Nomura Foundation (2014), Hans und Stefan Bernbeck-Stiftung (2016), and a residence scholarship in the Künslerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf from the Ministry of Science, Research and Cultural Affairs Brandenburg (2017).
Tsukamoto studied composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln (Cologne) and the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler (Berlin). Her main teachers were Johannes Schöllhorn and Hanspeter Kyburz.
