A grinding and relentless kick drum, hi-hat and snare combo that no doubt hypnotizes even the most relenting soul. Those merits alone can command a dance floor but, combined with a single organ line that is equal parts villainous, psychedelic, and beautiful while being perfectly constructed with a masters knowledge in the art of tension and suspense, they have conceived a magnum opus of grand proportions.
An aural field fusing the finest elements of both heaven and hell.

Gregor Tresher kicks off 2015 looking to break new soil with his first ever full release for John Digweed's Bedrock Records.   

Last year was as hectic as ever for the Gregor and he came into it on high from the success of his artist album Nightcolours and having closed out 2013 by releasing an astonishing Laurent Garnier remix of the title track, on his own imprint.   Time to relax a little maybe? Not a chance. January saw the remixed version of the album hit the stores and this was backed within a few weeks by 'Taurus', Gregor's enticing collaboration with Petar Dundov. The summer saw him remix the Chymera classic 'Shadowdancer' and he closed 2014 with the superb 'Midas / Disturber' double-header.   

Somewhat of a musical chameleon, Tresher is as at home creating deeper shades of house for the likes of Moon Harbour and Ovum as he is techno rhythms for Music Man, Cocoon and Drumcode.   With label boss Digweed a huge fan, Bedrock is yet another perfect fit for the German and he opens his account with the mighty, melodic and Kraken'esque 'Goliath' and the razor-sharp lightning bolt that is 'Stormblade'.

Renowned for his melodic and emotional excursions with Tronic, Bedrock and Ideal Audio, Dutchman Rob Hes moves into the darker shadows of the dancefloor on his latest release and debut for Dubfire's SCI+TEC imprint, The Prophecy.  



The EP is a three track selection of raw, tough and pulsating grooves that opens with the mysterious and spooky tones of the title track. The air of suspense continues in High Tech Ritual with its growling bass and simple echoing percussion, before final cut Trapeze sees Rob join forces with Noraj Cue to dangle us feet first from their swinging, drum-laden groove.

A strong collection of stripped back techno that shows a quite different side to the flamboyant producer.

Seeing as Public Release is a San Francisco label and sister to Face, a long-running local party, you could say it was inevitable the label would put out a record that candidly celebrates its hometown’s talent, color, character. 415-PR10, whose name is an ode to S.F.’s first, emblematic area code, is exactly that: a frenetic survey of some of Northern California’s finest producers—and a blueprint of sorts for more similarly-minded and -themed EPs in the future.

The 12-inch gets warmed up with an uncharacteristically brief yet captivating nugget of West Coast-tinted Balearica by Anonstop, a mysterious cat whose debut release was a pair of edits on the cult imprint Blackdisco that came out five years ago. Then, 40 Thieves, a collective of some of the region’s most lauded and sought-after diggers, rev things up and settle into cruise control with Cage & Aviary’s dubby, drifting mix of “Lower Haighter.” It has a peculiar, crooked patience that sounds like an invitation to seek out all that goes bump in the night.

The strobes begin to flash on the flip with Bézier’s “Domination,” a swinging Italo disco riot that’s as sweaty and goofy as it is focused and no-nonsense. It’s a subtly twisted jam that you’ll swear played for hours when it sharply ends in a bass-and-hi-hat reprise, which is probably exactly what it was made to do; Bézier, a.k.a. Robert Yang, is one fourth of Honey Soundsystem, the San Francisco DJ crew that’s been throwing parties for over a decade. The EP calls it with the Beat Broker’s “Trade Secrets,” a glittery shuffler that almost serves as a medley of the three cuts it’s preceded by. A dollop of velvety kosmische, a cup of slow-mo disco, and a sprinkle of underspoken piano house, it’s a freeing way to wrap the four-tracker.

415-PR10's cover art is by legendary Californian painter and graffiti artist Barry McGee. A two-track remix 12" featuring Tim Goldsworthy (as Thee Loving Hand) and Chida mixes of PR10 tracks follows in November.

One of the more prominent personalities to emerge on Powell’s Diagonal Records, Alessio Natalizia aka Not Waving has produced a relentless acid refix of The Pop Group’s first single 'Zipperface' from their new album 'Honeymoon On Mars'

Hailing from Italy but now based in London, Natalizia has been operating under the Not Waving guise since 2013, clocking up an impressive series of self-released cassettes and LPs on his own Ecstatic Recordings imprint. As well as applying himself to a continuing evolution in his own music, Natalizia has also displayed a specialist interest in obscurities from the 80s underground. This interest culminated in the 2013 release of 'Mutazione: Italian Electronic & New Wave Underground 1980-1988', an acclaimed compilation of proto-industrial and primitive electronic music that completely reset the consensus on Italian music in the 1980s. Whilst maintaining a strong release schedule on Ecstatic (Pye Corner Audio, Gavin Russom, The Tapes, Daniele Ciullini and more) this year Natalizia perfected Not Waving’s calling card with 'Animals', an LP that alternated between and often combined liminal ambience, industrial amplitude and incisive, malfunctioning body music. 

On the back of touring America with the Diagonal Records crew Not Waving completes a trilogy of Pop Group remixes after contributions from Hanz and Goth-Trad. Like Hanz and Goth-Trad it comes from a place of enduring respect for The Pop Group’s daring experimentalism. Yet unlike the efforts of Hanz and G-T, Zipperface isn’t led into shadowy echo chambers or sub-bass assault but carved up and weaponised into a barrage of convulsive computer glitch, muscular EBM and thuggish acid. 

The single is taken from the 10 track album produced by dub titan Dennis Bovell, who worked on their seminal debut album 'Y', and Hank Shocklee, producer of Public Enemy’s iconic first three albums as a member of the Bomb Squad. 'Honeymoon On Mars' was released through Freaks R Us on Friday October 28th 2016.

"I've been in love with Destructo's 'Techno' since the first time I heard it - I think midtempo electro and deeper indie dance are taking off, and I wanted to give the original my own rework. I liked how Destructo grabbed the sample from Eminem's 'Without Me', and decided to use more of that sample to build the song around. I kept the tempo at 112BPM, but decided to get more complex and weird with my bass arrangement - I hope my Fresch Fam love this remix as much as I do!"

East Wall was an Italian electronic dark wave band started by Fabrizio Chiari (ex keyboardist of Kirlian Camera) and Wilma Notari in 1982. After a series of demos and live performances, the duo recruited Angelo Bergamini of Kirlian Camera to help with arrangement and synthesizers. They released their debut single “Eyes Of Glass” in 1985 which had huge success in Germany, leading to a deal with ZYX.

By 1991 the band consisted of Fabrizio Chiari (Synthesizer, Electronics, Keyboards), Tiziana Wells (Vocals, Synthesizer) and Angelo Bergamini (Synthesizer, Piano, Arrangement). At the beginning of the year, they recorded their next batch of songs at Prominence Studio in Cremona and A Love Sound Studio in Piacenza. "Silence" was self released by the band in 1991.  The lead track “Silence” was a left-over song by Kirlian Camera recorded in 1985 with vocals by Simona Buja under the alias Lorenza Larini.  It was recorded largely using a variety of now-classic Roland, Yamaha, and Oberheim synthesizers. 
The album displays East Wall’s maturity and unique aesthetics, with instrumental pieces reminiscent of Angelo Badalamenti’ Twin Peaks score.  Tiziana Wells
sings with pure emotion, hypnotic at times, upbeat and carefree at others.  Frankie Teardrop (of the Wierd party and the Systems of Romance blog) describes this album as "possibly the closest thing to darkwave freestyle that exists.” We decided to expand the album, releasing it as a deluxe double LP cut louder at 45 RPM. We have also included an unreleased extended version of “Ice Of Fire” and the bonus track “Intro”, found on the DAT tapes Fabrizio Chiari sent us.

All songs are remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. It is housed in the original jacket, featuring a dramatically lit photograph of the band by Andrea Gambetta. Each copy includes an 11x11 double-sided insert with photos of the band, lyrics, and liner notes by Intergalactic Gary, who’s Despair Mix turned us onto to this album.
