Ce mois-ci, on invite pas cet énergumène par hasard, de toute façon, le hasard, à ce qu'il paraît y'en a pas ! On l'invite parce qu'il adore les listes, les moodboards, les croquis, tout ce qui lui fait office de garde-fou et lui permet de faire un pas de côté. 
Mais on l'invite surtout parce qu'il a les esgourdes bien ouvertes, qu'on l'aime et qu'il sera dans notre nouvelle Carpaccio Summer Hit qui sort ce mois-ci. Une selecta azimutée, lourde et personnelle. 

Aussi petit message de l'artiste : "la dernière chanson, c'est Lole Y Manuel, un clin d'oeil à mon amoureuse Philomène qui danse le flamenco, elle me fait découvrir des artistes incroyables et chante aussi sur mon prochain album" et cet album c'est un peu tous ces univers réuni ! <3

I’m thrilled to present the myth of MITH-XX, and unveil a first peek into their industrial record label Flesh Prison, in a very special moment of resurgence.

Flesh Prison is, relatively speaking, the discovery I've presented on Spectral Shock the quickest, and admittedly having heard the least. This is because I encountered FP during a period it was in a limbo, hovering between enigmatic existence and nonexistence. I had an immediate visceral gut reaction to the stark visual presentation and bursting roster of its fiery initial stint that revealed this is something different, made by people with a special relationship and profound passion to industrial, that goes far beyond the superficial — with tireless reportage of the many shades under the umbrella. There’s so many extra-musical (environ)mental factors that go into straggling onto the path of discovery, expression, and gravitation towards such extreme and damaged musics that I sensed strong kinship beyond our shared heroes. 

“What and who is this?” Coming across it all half-erased, I felt too late. However, FP has returned and we are proud to present a peek into what they are and what’s to come.

Montréal based Matthew Samways took their plunge into experimental music at 14 and two years later founded Electric Voice, working with the likes of Genesis P-Orridge, Xeno & Oaklander, Ike Yard, countless others. Samways has played in various bands including The Pink Noise and studied at NSCAD before founding Flesh Prison in 2021, which was on hiatus late 2022 - fall 2024. Besides the main project MITH-XX, they’re half of Heaven Axis and EXERCITUS.

Each track in Samways’ selection holds deep personal significance, from the introduction by dear late friend Silent Servant; to first works with Genesis which marked the start of their working relationship with Edley O’Dowd; releasing Brighter Death Now after 7 years of silence; long-time inspirations The Haters & co; collaboration with best friend Morgan Hall; premiering our common hero J.K. Broadrick’s new FINAL; and so many more major influences and supportive figures in their life.
