Bantwanas is a collective of South African producers, songwriters and musicians collaborating to bring top-quality African house music. At ten members strong, the collective contains five vocalists, a drummer, a guitarist, a pianist and is spearheaded by the producers of the group: Ryan Murgatroyd and Blanka Mazimela. 

Marking their Anjunadeep debut with ‘Dingane’, Bantwanas fuse traditional African tones and vocals with contemporary dance beats. After their recent success on labels including All Day I Dream and their own imprint Bantwanas Kollektiv, the South African group prove themselves to be at the forefront of the Organic Afro House movement. 

Alongside the original, Berlin-based producer Powel and Soweto native Fka Mash stamp their mark on ‘Dingane’. Powel utilises the polyphonic rhythms in his remix showcasing why he’s released on All Day I Dream, Do Not Sit On The Furniture Recordings and Stil vor Talent. Fka Mash pays homage to South Africa’s diverse range of musical styles that have seen him supported by Black Coffee, Kid Fondue, Jullian Gomes and Sébastien Léger.

Building an intricate soundscape, ‘Love Voice’ flaunts his unique sound design with carefully selected synths and pads, placed along a rolling bassline. Exuding a late night energy, this groove-inducing cut will keep dance floors moving until the early hours. Flowing into ’Synthnobody’, Ron further demonstrates his expert precision. Blending melodic and progressive elements, this second offering creates a melancholic atmosphere with minor tones and dissonant intervals.

Handpicked by curators James Grant & Jody Wisternoff, the Anjunadeep 12 Samplers collectively host 9 highlights from the compilation. Part 2 features a new remix from the guys as well as tracks from Tagavaka, Luigi Sambuy and Arswain.

First up, Jody & James put their stamp on ‘Kilkee’, an ambient track written by British duo Solomon Grey. Following his first standalone release ‘Paper EP’, Luigi Sambuy collaborates with Arswain on ‘Partitioning II’, a succession from Arswain’s track ‘Partitioning’ released in 2020. Utilising Arswain’s vocals and a fast-paced bass, the duo demonstrate their production flair. Closing the sampler is Anjunadeep debutant Tagavaka with ‘State Lines’, a track characterised by rising arpeggios and swelling chords.
