Episode: The Hitchhiker - Season One

I felt this episode best lent itself to a mounting sense of dread. It was based on a radio play from the 40s, originally voiced by Raymond Burr. Serling cleverly replaced the male protagonist with a female. Sexism aside, the visual of a woman alone on a highway being stalked by a thin grey man was far more effective. 

Going My Way

Episode: Five Characters In Search of an Exit - Season Two

A notable fan favorite. Most view this episode as just another eerie tale with a twist ending. However, for years now, I've seen as a condensed summary of existential philosophy. Strip down humankind to the bare basics and you have people, trapped in barrel with an unreachable horizon in view. If you subscribe to a naturalist world view, then this is ultimately what you have to work with... nothing more.

Episode: Nervous Man in a Four Dollar Room - Season Two

Not so much able to capture the story here, but the feel... If you know the episode, the pieces should fall into place. Nervous tension, spiral into madness... 

The Door To Nowhere

This project spawned from a simple love of a major life influence. I can remember sitting mesmerized in front of the television, at around four or five years of age. Serling spoke, and I listened. In the beginning, it was morbid curiosity and the thrill of being frightened... but as I matured, striking nuances and subtleties began to demand my attention. I recognized social topics that were still present in the 80s and 90s, portrayed in thinly masked fashion using monsters and horrific scenarios that seemed to hold a mirror to and challenge their real life counterparts. 

The show still speaks... after all these years... it reverberates in it's inspiration creating echos in the fifth dimension.
