"the love is destructive" decia un graffiti, cerca de la oficina, y pense hay que analizar esto filosoficamente, psicologicamente, poeticamente,   

La canción presenta una tesis provocativa: "El amor destruye". El narrador comienza describiendo su vida ordenada y controlada como una "fortaleza perfecta" con "muros bien construidos".

La llegada de una persona irrumpe en esa calma, descrita metafóricamente como un "saxofón a medianoche, rompiendo el silencio".

El estribillo insiste en que el amor no es construcción, sino una "dulce demolición" que "destruye tu ego, tu norte y tu plan". Sin embargo, el puente de la canción ofrece la resolución a esta idea: la destrucción no es negativa, sino necesaria.
