In seventies and eighties guitar-accompanied trio singing became something of a trademark format for Georgian acoustic music. Simebi might not have been the most popular among these bands, but they definitely stood out for good. Hailing from Samtredia and associated with its timber factory, their style had a very interesting twist: they instilled definite Western vibes to this classic Georgian format so far as some music writers started to even call their music "Georgian country". Plus, in contrast to most other unplugged formations, Simebi were songwriters themselves with excellent melodic sense and a knack for bright, dynamic arrangements. In 1990 they released their only LP, which is very poorly recorded, full with clipping and sound distortion (how did one manage to do this in the professional studio dealing with just two acoustic guitars and 3 voices?) that mars many brilliant songs there. Fortunately, two songs from that LP were also recorded for this small 4-song "minion" in 1983. These circumstances make this short record very important for the timeline of great Georgian music.

Samson Lejava - Oh This World (1970s)

Nektarios Chargeishvili (1937 - 1971) was one of the most talented and underrated composers from that golden Soviet generation, which spawned names like Schnittke, Gubaidulina, Denisov and others. He was openly against Soviet government and his exposure was severely limited as a result. He got dismissed from the conservatoire; struggling to find the job for the remainder of his life (he even applied for a bus driver but was denied), his mental health deteriorated. He took his own life a short after finishing his only symphony.
This work has been repressed throughout Soviet era. Only in 1990 it had its debut performance. The work of a barely known composer attracted little audience, but yet the recording was made. This is the only recording of the symphony so far.
The music torrents like a mental avalanche - not surprisingly, it has been cited as a masterpiece by Schnittke and Gubaidulina.
