ich mach ne coverversion, wenn einer stirbt, der mein leben musikalisch beeinflusst hat. und dr. john alias mac rebennack ist mein ultimativer held. seine platte "dr.john's gumbo" hat meine einstellung zur musik komplett auf links gedreht.

ich denke, ich war so ungefähr 21 jahre alt, als ich das album in die finger bekam (zeitgleich entdeckte ich die specials). es sind lauter karnevalslieder und ähnliche gassenhauer drauf, die musik ist pures new orleans und stellt für mich den urknall allen musizierens dar. jerry wexler hat die aufnahmen produziert, ich bezweifle aber, dass es daran liegt, dass die platte für mich die blaupause des guten sounds ist.

iko iko ist ein karnevalslied. man kann bei wikipedia nachlesen, was die komischen worte bedeuten sollen. der doctor sagte allerdings, "iko iko an day" hieße "hier komm ich, macht platz!". mir reicht das als erklärung, karneval halt.

man hört mich singen, akustik- und e-gitarre und flöte spielen, am bass und percussion. das klavier spielt mein freund Wolfgang Proppe, der als Allen Toussaint kölns gehandelt wird.
