Euphoria

Thinking of using this as an idea for a film score if I ever directed a series of animated films of my cyberpunk/dystopian comic London 2025. One of the key themes of the story is severe global-warming and eco-rebellion in the not too distant future. The lead protagonist, Doe is a courier gang leader who also joins in the fight for climate change as an eco-warrior. I can imagine this tune (when a more finished piece)as the theme for it and the Extinction Rebellion of the time rising up..
Another one of my songs yet to have lyrics along with verses, choruses etc.

A cover of the 1959 version. 

May add some other instrumentation later, including extra drum fills which feel needed.. 

I’m inspired by the melodies in the song and I thought a dub style bass line, beat and sound could lend itself to the doo-wop style of the Flamingos version. I thought Motown style backing vocals would work well with a touch of a dub aesthetic.

Am pretty settled with this title. I feel it works better than Dubtronik, it’s former working title.
The song evokes a sense of exploring a colourful futuristic world.
Elements of the sound bring to mind Roni Size, Asian Dub Foundation, Doves, Super Furry Animals to name a few, unintentionally of course, but I must be unconsciously a little influenced..
I’m glad how this song has evolved in just the space of a few days.
Still may add things at some point.

I feel the song evokes a vibe of the current title and am thinking of using how Jamaican culture has had an influence on London society and especially in a musical context; The fusion of dub, jazz and drum and bass in the song brings this to mind..

I’ve also been inspired by an artist, Tess Hirst (you’ll find on soundcloud) for recently doing a gig honouring how Jamaican culture has had an influence on Jazz; this serendipitously coincided with recording this and adding the sax arrangements. Her post about her gig then further inspired me in the creation of the track.

The song, like others I’ve done, is very primitive, especially with the drums and there’s still lots I’ll be doing with it. I’ve done a lot of saxophone arrangements, so I hope you like those.

Had added more to this around a year ago and hadn’t uploaded it until now. It now has a Cuban jazz style piano part at the end with a dirty synth bass; this isn’t necessarily how I want the song to end but where I’ve got to with the song. I also changed the snare sound.

I'm thinking of naming the song as a suite, dividing the song into 4 sections:

I feel the song audibly conveys the scenarios in the title.

The track is also a hats off to scores of old films set in New York, I really get nostalgic vibes of East Coast backdrops and aesthetics from the sound.

New York Nostalgia (Working title. Latest)

This song, for me, evokes a mood swing from upbeat and joyful to a down tempo and mood and then back in to a more uplifting energy towards the end. I’m thinking the theme of the song could relate to mood swings in all of us as well as mood disorders and how music can elevate us up and down.
Still more to come on this track including more guitar solos and a possible shift in to a jazz swing tempo. Watch this space.

You’ve Got Me In A Jazz Mood Swing (Working title. Earliest Dev)

This has been one of the most challenging musical journeys I’ve embarked on and it still isn’t finished 😆. I’ve done a hell of lot of work on it since last upload and the stress and effort involved is super painstaking. Without even really intending on doing so, I’ve created a suite of music which shifts from different styles of jazz and improvisation including fusion, acid jazz and jazz swing with a brass and sax motif that weaves through each part. I still like the idea of mood swings being a theme and I find that a lot of music elevates me or brings me down in to a more somber or mellow mood, especially music I’m listening to in more recent times. I find that a lot of jazz music does that particularly. I just felt that this piece evoked a fluctuating mood within the shifting of a more up tempo beat and melody to a more slow and melancholic one. More to come.

You’ve Got Me In A Jazz Mood Swing (Latest)

I’ve been a little MIA with my music recently, but I’ve managed to create something with lyrics.
This stems from my struggle with trying to reach success with my music over the years and the creative block I’ve come up against in recent times due to feeling overwhelmed with what life has thrown at me.
I thought of Alchemy for a title as magic comes up in the lyrics as a metaphor for creating music or art. The line “channel the fear and the despair and turn it into gold” is like the act of turning metals into gold with the ancient philosophy of alchemy.
I’ll be adding more instrumentally and lyrically very soon including effects and mixing etc.

Battle Of The Wizards (Working title)

Have added more since last upload including more guitar.
I’ve replaced the GarageBand electric piano with the KORG module electric piano plug-in I bought from the Apple Store called 70’s Earthy, it’s so much better and has a slightly more Chick Corea feel to it. I’ve also been using the Beathawk app for the snare which has a better snare edge sound.

Wizard’s Oddysey (Working title) Latest.

I’m an alternative guitarist/composer and vocalist originally from Camden, London. 
I fully compose, record and mix my songs on Garageband. All guitar playing is live, whilst the rest of the arrangements are recorded by quantising regions with MIDI instruments. No built-in loops are used.

I’m currently incorporating Nu Jazz and Post-Rock sounds into my music and I’ve recently been writing and recording new material autonomously. 
In the course of a few years of my musical explorations, I’ve taken inspiration from and studied the keyboard playing of Jazz artists like Chick Corea and Donald Fagen and the guitar touch and tonality of guitarists from Al Di Meola to David Gilmour. I also take some inspiration from Afro Beat guitar playing and soca music as well as dub, EDM and the London jazz movement. My aim is to have this material fully realised as an album, hopefully in the near future. 
As of now, I’m treating the tracks on this page as demos or songs in development that may be mastered eventually.
I endeavour to record/perform with a band in the near future to launch an LP.
