Speaking Minds return to Aeon with their first EP on the label, after a remarkable appearance as remixers on Dodi Palese’s ‘Black Drop Effects’.

This release starts off with ‘JSB’, a captivating and hypnotic affair enhanced by perfectly crafted delayed synths creeping out of the background. The constant darkness in harmonies and pads takes the listener through a brilliantly thought out progression and leaves them wanting for more after this 9-minute trip ends.

‘Yaoundé’ continues on this melancholic vibe, while bringing forward a more cinematic and even more chilling side from the Italian producers’ music. The main ambient lead develops beautifully, alongside many synth harmonies, and offers a contrast with a pushing drum section. This track is reduced to its essence, with crisp shakers and hi-hats bringing a drive to the intense atmosphere created by numerous harmonic layers.

Closing off this EP, ‘Paradise’ features a drunken melody evolving all through the track; a hook that is celverly completed by a pad halfway through. The arrangement, natural and flowing, makes every element of this trip shine, from the discrete chords in the background to the main synth line.

Speaking Minds have truly spoken with their heart here. This is a collection of masterfully crafted tracks full of melancholy and passion. Prepare to be taken aboard this cinematic trip...

I have a cheeky we French number for you today. Produced by Lyon’s rising tech-house star, Spencer K.

I was first introduced to Spencer by Metodi Hristov who collaborated with him on “Basic Tricks”, their Hot Since 82/Danny Daze/Robert Dietz supported bomb from late 2014.

Since then he has given us “Vodka Way”. Was it an ode to the standard DJ rider most clubs opt for? Who knows... What I can say for sure is that it featured on GU’s (Top 10 tech house) Ibiza album and was supported by the likes of Catz’n’Dogz, Wade, The Mekanism & Thermalbear.

For his debut EP on GU he delivers 2 brand new solo tracks and a superb collaboration with Saved/Suruba/Kinetika artist Dennis Cruz.

“Impacto” (with Cruz) kicks off the EP. Heavy brass stabs and oddball vocal effects make a unique topline while some clever percussion and bouncing bottom end deliver a killer club groove that - to me - sounds as fresh and dance-floor ready as Metodi’s “Step Outside” did two summers ago. 

“Dynamite” takes things up a notch with looping vocals and air-punching synths. “Hard Struggle” maintains the energy levels with rolling synths, rapid-fire snares and a cool vocal and for those that missed it first time around, “Vodka Way” is here for you too.

As we turn over into 2016, AEON head honcho Alex Niggemann takes the reins for AEON’s second release in the New Year... and what an EP it is. As a DJ, producer and label boss, Alex’s production focuses on the more soulful and wistful side of Techno. With two solid original tracks and a very strong remix from Mathew and Nathan Jonson’s familiar project Midnight Operator, this release is another in the line of high quality techno AEON has become synonymous of.
Starting off with ‘Angular’, the A-side, a rising feeling of suspense progressively builds into a melodic trance. Layers seamlessly blend together, lead by an array of arpeggio-ed synthesisers. All of this is beautifully interlinked with stripped back, subtle drum patterns..
‘Convection’ brings a slightly more percussive based overlay of sound design. Layers of hats and drone like sounds build slowly until an uplifting breakdown, familiar in Alex’s productions, cuts through the track. On remix duties, Mathew and Nathan Jonson alias Midnight Operator brings a fresh approach to ‘Angular’. A psychedelic introduction builds up to a climax, before dropping right down into a very unique stripped back break beat.
Angular EP is another release of quality techno from AEON, a label that is hitting all the right notes with its output, and is fast becoming a fixture in many international DJs’ bags.

Pete continues exploring the sound and giving emotion to his music today in form of three new tracks full of soul and heart. Trying Not To is a tight huge track that will burn the most demanding places. Master Gabriel Ananda presents an exquisite version rich in details and getting a fantastic balance between deep and tech. We knew he is a quality stamp. 

Graphium follows the futuristic and tasteful line of Electronic Music. Sinister and dark voices for a devastating effect on the dancefloor. Me My Molly shows Pete’s more elegant stuff. He goes a bit deeper with sensual melodies but for sure also a great pick of the night. But, as Pete says, let the music speak by itself.

Leena Music welcomes an artist who rise through the ranks of the DJ elite has been swift, purposeful and striking. 

Starting out as a promoter and label manager, Nicole Moudaber booked huge acts for her Soundworx nights at Londons legendary Turnmills club alongside running Southeast Recordings, but it wasn't long before she started to produce herself. 

Flawlessly carving out her very own edgy house and tough, soulful techno sound, her music was instantly picked up by the world's leading tastemakers including Carl Cox, John Digweed and Pete Tong. A residency in Ibiza playing alongside Carl Cox at his weekly night followed, as well as requests for guest mixes on both his and John Digweed's internationally syndicated radio shows. 

Her releases have received just as much praise as her DJ performances. 'Contents of My Head' was featured on the prestigious '15 Years of Drumcode' compilation in 2011 and her remix of Carl Cox's 'Chemistry' on Intec spent weeks at the top of the Beatport Techno chart. 

"Hair" presents exactly what Nicole Moudaber is about in full flair and will work the floor just as she does when she's playing. Both tracks -  'Hair' and 'Let Go' -  will easily set one of the main rooms in Ibiza alight, where she will most probably be for many seasons to come!!

Norwegian duo Ost & Kjex make a welcome return to Crosstown Rebels. Their Private Dancer EP is a masterclass in producing dance-floor ready rhythms. They welcome fellow Norwegian Whalesharkattacks to the mix to provide her dark yet dreamy vocals.

“We had a fascination with Tina’s Private Dancer since first being exposed to it by Pat Sharp on Sky Trax in the 80’s. Whalesharkattacks personifies everything that’s cool about the 80’s, so when we met her we knew we had to cut a version” Ost & Kjex

Private Dancer is as dark as it is melodic, with eerie drum pads and a medley of dreamt synths. Norwegian vocalist Whalesharkattacks, whose music has been described as 808 goth, lends a distorted vocal. On Nightingale a burdenging bass adds a sense of urgency interlaced with vocals reminiscent of the 80s era. Cosmic synths float side by side samples of beautiful bird song. A titillating work of art with a mesmerising beat.

Ost & Kjex met at school in their teens, bonding over a love of skating, punk and death metal. Their band, Beyond Dawn, released six albums between 1990 and 2003. Fast forward to 2018, and their shared love of music has developed into electronic productions and creative live shows. Their debut album as Ost & Kjex Some But Not All Cheese Comes From The Moon in 2004 was made entirely of sounds from cheese and biscuits. They’ve played at an eclectic range of venues from Thai restaurants in Moscow to Panorama Bar in Berlin and car launches in China.
