Speaking Minds return to Aeon with their first EP on the label, after a remarkable appearance as remixers on Dodi Palese’s ‘Black Drop Effects’.

This release starts off with ‘JSB’, a captivating and hypnotic affair enhanced by perfectly crafted delayed synths creeping out of the background. The constant darkness in harmonies and pads takes the listener through a brilliantly thought out progression and leaves them wanting for more after this 9-minute trip ends.

‘Yaoundé’ continues on this melancholic vibe, while bringing forward a more cinematic and even more chilling side from the Italian producers’ music. The main ambient lead develops beautifully, alongside many synth harmonies, and offers a contrast with a pushing drum section. This track is reduced to its essence, with crisp shakers and hi-hats bringing a drive to the intense atmosphere created by numerous harmonic layers.

Closing off this EP, ‘Paradise’ features a drunken melody evolving all through the track; a hook that is celverly completed by a pad halfway through. The arrangement, natural and flowing, makes every element of this trip shine, from the discrete chords in the background to the main synth line.

2015 saw Stephan Bodzin release his second full length, “Powers of Ten”, as well as a new single on DJ Tennis’ and Tale of Us’ taste making label Life and Death. The album is another magical piece of work that focuses on melody and rhythm, on fat bass and vivid sound design and is a truly captivating journey through the mind, music, body and soul of one of dance music’s truly modern greats. After its release, a great team of modern music makers was enlisted to remix tracks from it: Maceo Plex & Shall Ochin, Fur Coat, Extrawelt, long time musical sparring partner Marc Romboy, Pan-Pot, Max Cooper, Agents of Time, Dominik Eulberg and many more all contributed to what is an essential collection. Pete continues exploring the sound and giving emotion to his music today in form of three new tracks full of soul and heart. Trying Not To is a tight huge track that will burn the most demanding places. Master Gabriel Ananda presents an exquisite version rich in details and getting a fantastic balance between deep and tech. We knew he is a quality stamp. 

Graphium follows the futuristic and tasteful line of Electronic Music. Sinister and dark voices for a devastating effect on the dancefloor. Me My Molly shows Pete’s more elegant stuff. He goes a bit deeper with sensual melodies but for sure also a great pick of the night. But, as Pete says, let the music speak by itself.

Pete Oak returns to SVT with a three piece EP chock full of murky melodies and introspective compositions. Kicking off the endeavor with Celsius, Oak reveals his penchant for soulful and emotive soundscapes early on. The first track unfolds as a slow paced ascending piece, ridden with scintillating bits and synths subtly winding up the entire groove. The outcome is a tense dancefloor cut with a spectral, ethereal appeal. Noctua takes off full energy from the get go, setting a gloomy mood by layering dense synths over a punchy bassline. Heavy distortion follows the break off, offering a striking release that goes to a full dramatic stop.

Similarly dynamic, yet with a completely different take on the up-tempo groove, Yama plays on assorted arrays of synths. Evoking a stirring atmosphere through timely crafted symmetries, it offers up a fitting, unwinding final track for the EP.

For his first full release for Selador he enlists two of his most trusted collaborators in the form Wolf & Moon. The singer/songwriters bring added dimension to John’s deliciously lo-slung indie flavored groove, their repetitive alternating vocal hooks stubbornly etching their way into your subconscious.
