Guys, this is a surprisingly harmonious fusion of worlds, dimensions & elements with a deliberate, bold yet playful & progressive brooding ephemeral sound. Love the layering, soundscaping & multidimensional imagery & states of being it conjures. It's got strong grounding, earth, primal energy, but it's also got dynamics, water, wind, aether & interdimensional cosmic glitchinees. An amazing expression of this burgeoning 'primal, psytech' energy that I grew to love from spending time in the underground of Sydney & Melbourne.

Deep, trippy and hypnotic. That pretty much sums up the new Nacreous-EP by Shoal on the Dutch imprint NOWHERE. The title refers to a certain glow or color that mother-of-pearl radiates. Shoal is the alter ego of Utrecht-resident Kenny Dean Kneefel. When you have a name that sounds like a famous stuntman, you are probably prepared to take more risks.

And indeed that's exactly what this producer from the lowlands does on Nacreous. Shoal's four track EP combines hallucinant grooves with delicate sound design. Like on Bygone Drums, where ominous distant sounds from a nearby factory creep between the shadows. The same can be said of the title track, a tribalistic tune with a delicate dark undertone.

Never Endings is more uplifting, with its dubbed out basslines and crispy hi-hats. Dubtechno that reminds us of both Monolake and Fluxion. Closing track Morning Float is indeed that, a trip in a blue tank filled with warm water, where you are comforted by beautiful strings and sounds of nature.

Franco-italian artist 𝘛𝘦𝘸𝘰 𝘙𝘪𝘯𝘢 is back with a second self-release. True to himself, 𝘚𝘺𝘮𝘣𝘪𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴, takes inspiration from trance influenced sounds with a 90’s touch. This EP dives deep into psychedelic, mental & percussive sounds that are tailored for dancefloor momentum.

Amulets curates a selection of forward-thinking electronic producers from around the world, weaving a sonic tapestry of intricate textures, hypnotic rhythms, and spectral melodies. Each piece serves as a talisman—charged with motion, memory, and transformation—offering glimpses into distinct yet interconnected soundscapes.

Dubbed-out echoes dissolve into weightless ambience, while fractal percussion patterns fold into polyrhythmic momentum. Pulsing low-end frequencies tether celestial synth work, evoking a liminal space between the organic and the artificial, the subconscious and the ecstatic.

Across its 10 tracks, the compilation unfolds with shifting tempos and oscillating moods, tracing the contours of deep introspection and kinetic urgency. Amulets is an invocation—a ritual of sound, wrapped in mystery, waiting to be unlocked.

Midheaven Records launches in 2021 with 'Force Majeure', the debut EP of Sydney/Eora-based amuwa (@a-m-u-w-a), aka 25-year-old Joshua Deering. Born and raised in the urban sprawl of Sydney CBD, Deering now brings 10 years of musical development to a head, where design and feel seamlessly enmesh. The EP draws from formative experiences immersed in the sounds of city noise, industrial zones, natural amphitheatres, and packed dance-floors. Familiar strains of electro, trance and bass music shift and meld into new, hybrid forms, driven by a synthetic-organic logic. Roiling subs and propulsive drums are engineered for impact, couched within mutating synth arrays. Untraceable oddities click, whirr and hum around the stereo field—subtle changes reward repeat, deep listening. Over four tracks, amuwa re-centres the whole body as listening technology—pursuing a trance-state that is grounded in the dance, not just for the head(s). This is a formidable debut.
