You know that feeling you get in your stomach right before you make a big presentation or take the stage for a performance? Or right before you tell someone that you’re in love with them? Or right before a big meeting or job interview or exam? It’s an uncomfortable feeling, for sure. For me, my palms get sweaty, my heart starts beating incredibly fast, there’s butterflies in my stomach, and my breath shortens. The best word I can think of to describe it is angst. However, this is the feeling that comes on before doing things in this life that are truly courageous. Before truly living and experiencing life in its full glory and beauty. The most amazing things in life happen because of pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone and taking chances. When I first thought of the name “Angst” for this album, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. I was afraid people weren’t going to take it the right way. But at it’s core, that is what this album is about. Learning to get excited and embrace those feelings of angst instead of being afraid of them, because those feelings are an indicator that amazing things are coming. 

This record is deeply personal to me. I have never poured more of myself and my emotions into my music, and have never created anything that I am more proud of. It deals with my personal battle with anxiety, addiction, loneliness, rejection, and self-deprecation. It’s a journey that has not been easy and at times feels extremely painful and uncomfortable. But it is a journey that was necessary for me to get to where I am now. And I wish I could say that where I am now is pretty freakin awesome. That I’ve finally broken through to some sort of “promise land” where everything makes sense. But to be honest, I’m still fighting those same battles, still confronting my own inner demons, still learning how to be the best version of myself, still feeling angst. But I think that’s alright. That may even be the point actually. There is no “promise land” and I’m not supposed to ever have everything figured out. Because the very flavor of life comes from growth and continuing to learn about ourselves and the world around us. And feeling the emotions that we feel, the pleasure and the pain, is exactly how we do just that.

The Meadow

"Frozen In Time" aka my "Travel Song" has had a long interesting journey. I first started it last June in New York and produced the first half of the song, the second half of the song, and in my opinion the most beautiful piece I have created thus far I produced this Thanksgiving Break in California. I truly feel this song captures everything the Elaborate Owl is about. My hope is that it makes the listener realize how precious the moment is and gives them that positive energy to make a difference in the world. Enjoy!!!
