A Christmas Dream

Sea Horizons is a piece I wrote in June 2023 inspired by "The Sea Horizon" - a set of photographs by Garry Fabian Miller. At the time, the collection was available as an exhibition at the National Museum Cardiff which is where this recording took place. The photographs are very reflective; united by the horizon line and yet within each there is a different character, a different expression, and a different emotion. I tried to encapsulate this feeling in my music through a constant harmonic framework but that has a shifting and moving character. Garry mentioned that, at the time when he made this collection, he was trying to see himself in the horizon. He was gazing upon it and trying to figure out who he was. This piece provides the space to go inwards and ponder that question for ourselves: who are we and what is our purpose?

TW: mental health themes such as anxiety and agoraphobia

A reflection on mental health, the music industry, and the misconceptions of both. I hope that not many of you can relate this, but if you can, you're not alone and, if you don't, sit in the uncomfortability of the music and let it take you on a journey. I wrote this piece to challenge you and to be unsettling in places so that the calm, peace, and happiness when they arrive are that much more rewarding.  I highly recommend listening to this with headphones if you can.
