MONTREAL, QUÉBEC– June 21, 2018, producer Cotola presents the beginning of an instrumental project influenced by the sound of bolero and hip-hop: Narco Bolero.

This 40 minutes album will highlight the special secret ingredient that has defined his sound over the years: bolero. Romantic Latin American ballads from way back occasionally fused with psychedelic rock and jazz to create a haunting sound. The tracks on the album are inspired by warm and melancholic melodies from the extensive collection of rare old bolero vinyls that Cotola has been cultivating over the years (including Los Angeles Negros, Tericolas, Pasteles Verdes).

The arrangements are contemporary, touching an emotional chord through the sound of the ballads, emerging as they did in the same generation as the height of African-American soul music, when Motown and Stax Records reigned supreme. The somber musical offering is amplified by a romanticizing sampling of quotes from obscure spanish gangster flics, highlighting the contrast between love and danger, a thematic tension that drives the soundtrack of an illicit music purveyor.

La formation Obia & Cotola lance un deuxième album : Le Théorème. Obia (WordUp! Battles, End of the Weak, Rap Contenders, Sniper) et Cotola (Agua Negra, Metazon, Gémeaux) adoptent à nouveau le modèle classique du «un emcee, un beatmaker» pour présenter ce nouvel épisode. 

Toujours en se soumettant à l’originalité instrumentale et lyrique propre aux racines du genre musical, les mélodies tant riches et mélancoliques que lourdes et poignantes se coordonnent aux textes à à la fois percutants, analytique et introspectifs qui traversent le storytelling, la réalité urbaine et l’esprit révolutionnaire des pionniers de la culture. 

Accompagné par les collaborations de Dramatik (Muzion, 7e Ciel), Soudia (Face Kaché), Jahnice (Kalmunity) et Paranoize (Koriass, palmarès Musique Plus), Obia & Cotola exemplifient le mouvement Hip-Hop québécois par des titres qui font foi d’un style unique en son genre.

L’album Le Théorème  est disponible dès maintenant au format numérique, notamment sur iTunes à travers le distributeur Believe Digital, avant de paraître en magazins à travers le Québec. Le lancement montréalais a lieu ce soir dès 19h au bar Le Belmont.
