Never Give Up

Walter Ignatius Walsh was an Irish immigrant who came to Canada in search of a better life. He was able to secure employment as a labourer teacher working on the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario railroad as a labourer/teacher, teaching English to immigrant fellow railroad workers in the evenings and working alongside them by day. He was killed in a Rail accident within 4 weeks of reaching Canada, his story is told in  a series of letters home.

Alternating east and west
I chase away the sparrows
Who are trying to build a nest
Mix the chemicals in the sprayer
So wild flowers and weeds don't grow
A sea of green kentucky blue grass
