From Olympic rowers to life-saving firefighters, diabetes is a condition that affects people from all walks of life.

I am one of 3.5 million people in the UK living with diabetes, of which there are type different types. Type 1, which affects 10 per cent of the 3.5 million, is most commonly diagnosed in children. Type 2, which makes up the other 90 per cent is most common in adults. 

This three part series will examine what it’s really like to have the condition.

Part One - Achievement

Diabetics have to test their blood sugars every time they want something to eat. Although this may seem a lot it’s significantly less than the twelve they had to do only fifteen years ago.
