Originally intended to be a "She'll be right, mate" kind of supportive song, the writing process pushed back at me to say "How dare you assume you know what someone is going through?". 
Everyone you meet has their own battles. Any of us can help by just having a conversation. If they don't want to talk, that's fine, maybe they will tomorrow. At least they'll know you care.

I don't know if it was just the circle of people I hung around with in the 90's and 2000's, but it seemed to me that we were finally maturing as a society; recognising the value of the father in the home as we moved away from the 50's stereotype of Dad always being at work.
Then the mining boom happened and it seemed to start again with the FIFO parents. 
Unfortunately, sometimes you just gotta do what you can to provide for them...
