Bitzer Maloney says hello for the latest addition of the pod series 👋

We first got put onto Bitzer’s online DJ sets a year or so ago. After tuning into a few of his shows we soon connected the dots and made the realisation that he is also the co-founder of Bakk Heia, a label based out of Manchester that we’ve been digging since it’s first releases back in 2019.

Bakk Heia started out as a party and is celebrating its 8th birthday in just a few days time. Having long booked a combination of upcoming talent and veteran diggers they’ve established themselves as a staple night in Manchester. This mix, gives a look into the Bakk Heia chiefs record bag, effortlessly moving between more hazey downtempo tunes and peak groovey basslines, all underlined with that signature acid-tinge - it'll serve you well 🫡

People & Places 054: Bitzer Maloney

Another musical connection formed on a dance floor (and one of many on the sandy shores of Floresta), I met Hans (@benkamal) at Waking Life last year. This mix is a lovely blend of tech house grooves, progressive, breaks and beyond - his collection coalesced into a divine interpretation of Animalia's sound.

A longstanding member of the Brussels scene, Hans is a dedicated & eclectic digger with a penchant for subtle grooves. Kamal explores house and techno's deepest cuts - each track deliberately chosen to lure the audience further into a hazy trip.

S:S 015 is here with a heavy trip from Ukrainian DJ/Producer @shjva.

Quickly making waves with a notable output of unique and fresh productions, straddling the fringes of IDM, Techno and Trance, Shjva has understandably turned a lot of heads in the last few years. 

Relocating to the Polish city of Warsaw 7 years ago from her native Ukraine she started the Penumbrum Radio show, later growing to a party collective and label with other local like minds joining, which then saw her put out a slew of music, playing live sets and DJing frequently in Berlin and across Europe.  It didn't take long for the network to expand to these shores with friendships and links being made with our crew and some of our extended family, realising EP's and mini albums on both People & Places and Common Ancestors. 

Desperate to bring her over to the UK, complications with visa's have unfortunately scuppered any attempts for the moment. For now we have a beautiful mix that she's skilfully crated for us that perfectly illustrates her sound and gives you a little snippet into the mind of Shjva.

Boyoon is a DJ based out of Seoul, South Korea, who started a residency at a club Nyapi in 2023. 

She popped up with mixes for Visera Music, Where Were We, and she draws her own deep sound with a genre-agnostic tracks for your listening pleasure.

Rich’s eclectic music tastes draw on a lifetime’s obsession with electronic music. He started DJing over 10 years ago, playing at DIY spaces on the murky fringes of club culture. Recently, he’s been co-running SUB:SYTEM – a London-based collective that host warehouse and forest parties in the nether regions of the city. SUB:SYSTEM has earned a growing reputation among those interested in trance and the progressive end of the musical spectrum, bringing together local and international artists in a community-focused space. Outside of London, Rich has played across the UK, and further afield at locations in Europe. His sound merges the psychedelic and playful, exploring prog, acid, ebm and techno, refracted through a lifelong passion for house music.

Bakk Heia Podcast No.1 - Vladimir Ivkovic (Live at The White Hotel) 

We begin our podcast series with a recording from one of the great DJs of our time, Vladimir Ivkovic, playing the final 3 hours of Bakk Heia at The White Hotel in May 24. 

In typical Vlad fashion there is a distinct and unique narrative quality to the mix. Whilst genre defying psychedelia churns into spikey IDM, and wailing post punk iterations flow into mainline acid stomp, there is an over arching sense of tenderness to the selection. Vlad told us after the lights came on that it was his intention to hold and take care of us that night. Transforming the spiralling chaos of the club environment to one which nurtures, rather than obliterates, our frenzied minds.

The leftfield-loving Lithuanian started collecting music as a kid. Soon after moving to Vilnius, when Electroclash anthems ruled the Earth, Marijus decided to embark on a DJ's journey.

Now, some years later, you know him as one half of 12 INČŲ PO ŽEME, the DJ duo he steers with Simas Slabačiauskas. The two operated the Smala nights in collaboration with another Vilnius nightlife staple, Manfredas.

These days, Marijus started sharing his uncanny favorites with audiences across the globe through the Per Amzius Ambient show on Radio Vilnius. From folk and jazz leftovers from the long-forgotten times, via the gloomy picks from the end of the century to contemporary sedated beats.

Born and based in lovely Vilnius, DJ and producer with irregular organising activities appears in the scene since the mid 2000s. Arkhad explores the underground's edgy corners and crafts heavy bass music with distorted rhythms that pulses with tension and cinematic images. Always in search of sonic irregularities, creating a cardinal change of pace that challenges listeners with its evolving layers. Little more than one hour of recent discoveries and music from folders visited long ago. Recorded at home one rainy November's evening.
