    iLL Communications continues its Summer Sessions at Warehouse with the UAE Premier of DJ E.A.S.E of Nightmares on Wax. Signed to Warp Records, he has been in the music business for over two decades.
    
    In the early 90’s Nightmares on Wax was the bright spot in the post-rave British techno map. George Evelyn aka DJ E.A.S.E (which stands for Experimental Sound Expert) began Nightmares on Wax in 1990 with his breakdance crew member Kevin Harper. Together they were able to bridge the competing influences of London rave and acid, Detroit techno and soul, and New York house and electro with their debut album “A World Of Science: The First And Final Chapter” in 1991.
    
    E.A.S.E has a strong background in soul music. Raised on the likes of Curtis Mayfield and Quincy Jones, he later became mesmerized by hip-hop tracks like Buffalo Gals and Rappers Delight. Nightmares on Wax’s second album “Smoker’s Delight” in 1995 reflected that. It was basically an instrumental hip-hop album with distinctive British eclecticism. 1999’s “Carboot Soul” followed suit with more genre-spanning sampler-and-sequencer musical experiments, but was released on Matador, an American indie label.
    
    After the release of his “Mind Elevation” and “In a Space Outta Time” LPs, DJ E.A.S.E wanted to do something different for his most recent album “Thought So”. He decided to move from Leeds to Ibiza, Spain and write his sixth album in the process. He documented the move and got together a team which included a guitarist, bassist, and a vocalist piled into a van to get started. “Thought So” is now a four part video series on You Tube and features the musical journey and the music it created for the album

It all began on May 23rd 2003, when OHM Records opened its doors to Dubai, bringing us something the Middle East region has never seen. From what started as a simple record shop, OHM Records is now responsible for bringing some of the biggest electronic acts in Dubai’s history. 

OHM has featured and promoted global club brands and international labels such as Renaissance, Defected, Global Underground, Bedrock and Cocoon; festivals such as Heineken Thirst Session, Perrier Chillout Festival and Stereo by Nokia; and DJs from the likes of Hernan Cattaneo, David Guetta, Carl Cox, Sven Vath, Dave Seaman, Laurent Garnier, Andy S (Portishead), Stanton Warriors, Kruder & Dorphmeister, DJ Yoda, Masters at Work, Nitin Sawheney, Xpress II, Groove Armada, 2ManyDJs, Tiefschwarz, Jazzanova, Gilles Peterson, M.A.N.D.Y .... the list could go on forever.

To honor this special 6 year milestone, we are proud to have Fabric’s own Terry Francis gracing the decks with his flawless mixing skills and crowd moving beats. Since winning Muzik magazines "Best New DJ" award in 1997, Terry Francis has had what can only be described as a meteoric rise to fame. To those previously unfamiliar with his flawless mixing skills and instinctive ability to work a crowd it probably seemed as if he'd arrived out of nowhere. Fact is though, he had been blazing a trail through the underground for no less than ten years before the world at large sat up and took notice. Warming up the evening is none other than local DJ/ Producer Hisham Samawi from Native Theory.

6 years and we are still pushing the boundaries of music in the region, just like when we first started in 2003.

  Jamie Odell aka Jimpster and Audiomontage has been producing, remixing and Djing for the last 15 years and co-running his Freerange Records label for the last 10 of those.His musical upbringing and open minded attitude to all types of music have meant his productions have found fans across the globe in the electronica/downtempo as well as house music scenes.Seminal Jimpster LP’s such as Messages From The Hub and Domestic Science really helped establish Jamie as an artist of some merit and he is now in regular demand as a remixer and co producer on a wide range of underground projects. Recently described by Ben Watt as a ‘future soul kingpin and bittersweet house don’,
  
  Jamie is regularly djing both in the UK and abroad. With an emphasis on top quality house music, but never afraid to stray from the path, he retains a freestyle approach that has seen him booked for gigs as diverse as Fabric, Plastic People, The Naked Music Beach Party at the WMC, Buzzin’ Fly at Neighbourhood and LA’s Bossanova.

  Gilles Peterson who will be spinning his signature set of latin infused acid jazz at iLL Communications. As a well recognized musical tastemaker, he spreads his influence on music listeners through WorldWide radio show celebrating 10 years on BBC Radio 1 now broadcasted in 15 countries from New Zealand, Croatia, Nigeria, USA to Cyprus. Gilles Peterson is a DJ, record collector and a three record label owner (Acid Jazz, Talkin’ Loud and Brownswood) from London, UK. Brought up among the South London suburban soul scene in the early eighties, Gilles would listen to Level 42, Earth Wind & Fire, Central Line and the heavier, deeper pirate stations such as Radio Invicta. This inspired him to set up his own station - an aerial suspended between a tree and a phone box - playing an eclectic mix of jazz, funk, reggae, soul and early electro. Over the years Gilles had collected so many records he had to move to a bigger house to fit all his records. He has come along way since then by being associated with the careers of countless well-known artists such as Erykah Badu, Tony Rich, Jamiroquai and from United Future Organization. 
  
  He has also hosted his Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Awards every year, the awards are an annual celebration of all the best new music that has come through every year on Gilles' Radio 1 show, with some of the best new acts performing on the night. He continues to be a breath of fresh air on the dance floors of the world and on this special night he will be playing unique selection of music that is rarely heard elsewhere.

  To trace the origins of Crazy P we have to go all the way back to 1996. This was the year that brought together James Baron and Chris Todd. It was the era of Ataris, Akais and bedroom studios and, through their love of bending and reshaping old records from many different genres; a production partnership was born in the backstreets of Nottingham. After a couple of releases under various different monikers, the work attracted the ears of legendary deep house label Paperecordings based in Manchester and the creature that is Crazy P was born. There’s been numerous and enjoyable trips to Australia since the band were adopted by the Aussies in 2003 and shows across Europe over the past five years. Highlights so far have included a support tour with ‘Faithless’ in 2005, New Zealand and Australia for New Year 2006, headlining the Castle Stage at the Big Chill 07 and the summer festival season every year! This year, the band is looking forward to releasing their fourth artist album 'Stop, Space, Return' which will be out on 2020 Vision this October 2008. And keeps eyes peeled for their European tour, which kicks off this September at venues all over the UK and beyond. Also, discover Hot Toddy, Ron Basejam, The Bionics and Secret Stealth on Myspace - all side projects involving various members of the Crazy P crew. They will be performing a downtempo electronica DJ/Live PA set.

  Berlin's Jazzanova collective formed in 1995, after DJing with one another at a club called Delicious Doughnuts. Alexander Barck, Class Brieler, Roskow Kretschmann, Stefan Leisering, Axel Reinemer, and Jürgen von Knoblauch shared a common goal of blending their collected inspirations together to create a new, sophisticated sound, with debts owed to nearly every form of dance-oriented music from the past several decades. Like a lot of upstart producers and underexposed jazz-funk ghosts of the past, Jazzanova got their first major break from BBC disc jockey Gilles Peterson, who played the group's first production, "Fedime's Flight," on his program in 1997. The same year that "Fedime's Flight" broke out in the dance underground, Jazzanova teamed up with the Munich-based Compost label to form JCR (Jazzanova Compost Records). In addition to functioning as the primary outlet for Jazzanova's own work, JCR released material from Koop, Victor Davies, the Underwolves, and Rima; looking to the past, the Polish Jazz and Vocal Jazz from Poland 1965-1975 compilations brought jazz from '60s and '70s Poland back into circulation. In 2002 the culmination of five years worth of work, their album sustained the group's reputation with tracks full of meticulous beatcraft. Remixed, released just a year later, featured remixes of In Between and 12" tracks from peers Kyoto Jazz Massive, Ayro, King Britt, and Bugz in the Attic. In 2005, the jazz label Blue Note gave the group access to their classic back catalog for the double mix CD Blue Note Trip. Amidst scads of other mix albums, compilations, and Sonar Kollektiv product, their second full production album, Of All the Things, appeared in 2008. Jurgen will be performing a soulfull, jazz freestyle DJ set.

Jazzanova @ Perrier ChillOut Festival 2009

2004 Dirt Crew aka James Flavour and Break 3000 launched Dirt Crew Recordings after 
releasing their first EP's "Cleaning up the Ghetto Part 1+2" on MBF. The track "Rok Da 
House" became one of the key records of 2004, the beginning of the Electro House hype and 
a big hit that gave the guys worldwide recognition on the dancefloors. Also Moodmusic 
released two 12's with the brilliant "808 Lazerbeam" and "Darkside" in 2004 and the 
"Domino" E.P. in 2005, but things really got wild when they remixed Sasse's "Soul Sounds" 
which again went straight in the charts and was voted one of the best remixes of 2005 in the 
german "Groove" magazine and has been dropped by all major DJ's. They also remixed the 
first single of the „Who made Who“ album on Gomma in 2005 and made classic remixes for 
artists and labels like Jennifer Cardini, Silicone Soul, 2020 Vision, Crosstownrebels, Gomma, 
Freerange, Fine and Breastfed. 

Due to their success and productivity they decided to start up their own labels named Dirt 
Crew Recordings and Players Paradise. Straight from the start Dirt Crew Recordings went off 
into the charts with the super massive remix of "Largo" by Dominik Eulberg who has set his 
path for success with this particular remix and is now one of Germans leading producers. But 
also the hot first single by Dirt Crew "What you Want" released in October 2004 is still a 
highlight in the whole retro old school scene.With the massive singles of James Flavour, 
Break 3000, Tigerskin and Jennifer Cardini the label proved to have an excellent output. 
With new artist like Alfa Romero, Adultnapper, Sian and Chopstick & Johnjon the label 
expands its view on quality house and minimalistic sounds. Combining these new artists with 
well known heroes of the scene like Kabale und Liebe, Motorcitysoul, Gregor Tresher and 
Spirit Catcher proved to be the key of success. Dirt Crew Recordings will follow this path in 
the future and will keep on promoting da real house sound.

OHM Events continues its DIGITAL series at Chi @ The Lodge. Thursday, August 13th featured Dutch DJ/Producer/Remixer Born To Funk. 

Born To Funk, born Ferdinand Lijnkamp, begun as a dedicated funk, soul, and disco DJ over twenty years ago. He is known for his incredible collection of rare and classic 12 inch records, and his passion for soulful music is a massive influence on his sets. He studied guitar and composition at the School of Arts, then found himself developing a passion for making electronic music.

Born To Funk started as a duo in 2003 in the Netherlands. He and Mattijs Muller hooked up and immediately scored a record deal at Spinning Records. Their debut EP ‘Born To Funk Part 1 & Part 2’ was released that summer. These 4-trackers pushed the Born To Funk conversance a big step ahead in the groove-house scene.

The release “Di Bamba” on Knee Deep USA in 2004 entered No. 1 in Audiowhores’ Miami chart at the Winter Music Conference and No. 9 in DJ Mag’s Hype Chart. With the addition of tracks “Souma Bana” on Soulfuric Trax, and “You Rock da House” on Elan Records, Born To Funk drew critical acclaim. Attention from industry moguls was attracted, which led to remix requests for their tracks making Born To Funk Holland’s most in demand producer and remixer ever. Born To Funk’s tracks and remixes have been released on compilations for Defected, Ministry of Sound, Hed Kandi, MN2S, and became the first Dutch act to ever appear on the famous Swiss label Purple Music, establishing a solid name in the high-end segment of the house music industry. 

Remix highlights include “Just Got Paid” and “Boys” for house-legend Ron Carroll, “Funky Love” for Justin Michael, “I Can Feel the Love” for Mr O, and “Hot” for Soul Flava. In 2007 they stunned the scene by producing a track with Mr. Tyree Cooper (S.O.D.B.), and new releases on Look At You Records and Body Music Chicago.

Today, Born To Funk is a solo DJ and plays more than 100 gigs a year in Holland and beyond. He has played at Pacha in Ibiza, Patipa in Kiev, Supperclub in Bangkok, Amika in Miami, and Trilogy in Dubai. In Holland on a regular basis, Born To Funk rocks Housequake, Defected in the House, Hed Kandi and Super Sunday events, and has secured residencies at major festivals Dancevalley, Extreme Outdoor, and Sensation White.

He has the nickname “King of Acapellas” and has got serious 4-deck skills. He is a leader and pioneer of the international house scene, and his productions are mainstays on numerous charts. Wherever he plays, he gets hands up in the air with his Born To Funk funky sounds.
