So... yeah.  I don't really know what I was thinking with this one, it's kind of a mess, but I think there's at least one idea in there I can extract for something a little more listenable later... I don't know.

Nightshift

Noodling with the MPC's sequencer.  Drums are MPC, I don't recall what's doing the rest.

There's a nugget I want to try to polish later, but I kind of ruin it with the "string" thing, it's out of place now that I listen to it again.  Oh well.

Nonsense, part 3

I love Vince Guaraldi, especially his Peanuts Christmas album.  Here I'm just practicing the intro to his version of O Christmas Tree and recording (for my own benefit) what's wrong:

1. too slow.  Ugh, whose funeral is this?
2. not enough dynamics.  However, I blame the KX88 I used for that, and is partly the reason why I bought a Korg SV-1, so I could have a modern piano with decent action.  I haven't yet rerecorded this tune with it, though.  Sheesh.

O Christmas Tree (excerpt)

I have a Rhodes Chroma Polaris, and someone asked me, "that's kinda rare, what does it sound like?"  Well, little Timmy, it sounds something like this.

All sounds are from the Polaris, except the snare and hihat, which are Stylus RMX.

Polaris

This was a challenge (for myself) to create a track solely with soft synths.  As it turned out, I used only ONE soft synth, Cakewalk's Pentagon.  All sounds, drums and all, are from Pentagon.  Drums were played by hand, no pattern loops used.

I have no idea what the title means.

Scrump

Another Harmony Central challenge track: Create a track using only sine waves.

Hmm.

This is my attempt.  All sounds are patches based on simple sine waves.  To get anything interesting, though means using FM and feedback, that's where the crunchiness is coming from.  All sounds are PolyEvolver, overdubbed (using the digital sine wave oscs) and I think one patch from Virus TI.

Smack Futures

The title refers to how I think it turned out... it's too busy.  lol.  Just some late-night noodling, drums are samples on the MPC, I don't recall where the other sounds come from.  File this one under, "polish this up and make a whole song with it later."

Too Busy

Almost a whole song, not quite.  Except for not being quite a whole song yet, my main beef with this is the kick drum sound I used, I need to replace it.  Bleh.

I don't really know what I had in mind when I was recording it, but here it is anyway.

Warpath

My take on the Doctor Who theme, recorded about a year ago.  Listening to it now, there's a bunch I would do differently, but here's how it stands now.  Uploaded "just because."

This is a noodling I recorded while I was trying to get my new DAW setup working.  I had just gotten a new audio interface and it was giving me a HELL of a time; Everything I recorded had snaps and clicks and crap in it, and I spent a few days tweaking settings and stuff trying to get it working right.  At some point, it magically worked cleanly, and I recorded this.

The next day, it was just as flaky as before.  I gave up and bought a better audio interface, and never had a problem since.

Anyway:  At the time I thought Sonar (my DAW) hated me, and hence the title.  I believe this is all Motif Rack, overdubbed.

Why Does Sonar Hate Me?

I'm trying to think up something to put here to accurately describe myself while being hilariously witty at the same time, but I'm drawing a blank.  So, pretend that I wrote something that made you say, "yeah, I totally relate to that guy", while tears of laughter stream down your face.  Yep, good times, my friend.  Good times.

Otherwise, this will have to do: These are mainly a collection of sketches and half-baked tracks that I thought I'd embarrass myself with to friends and family.
