Hard Ton, Italy's extravagant duo of all things house music are back on Luv Shack Records, unleashing six steaming hot tracks on the "Queer Nation EP" - a precursor to the first full Hard Ton album that is due for 2017. "Queer Nation" has singer Max swapping his falsetto with a dark mangled voice, paying tribute to some essential queer icons over a dry acid house track that rejoices in repetition, and rightly so. "Classic Music" head-honcho and old timer Luke Solomon's remix of "Queer Nation" builds up an intense 707 drum pattern, underlining rhythm guitars and Max's voice, ending in a bold acid climax. Italian newcomers "Younger Than Me" also take on "Queer Nation", marrying an early 80's wave touch with a classic house approach. When Hard Ton pair up with ROTCIV, "Style Ga-Galore" awaits us. The cut up hushed vocals are thrown into a lush melange of filtered pad shots, a 303 bassline and a percussive house groove. "Yeah Yeah" featuring Moralez & Sames is an ode to early Detroit and Chicago house, with Max singing vigorously, syncopated hihats swirling and stabs nodding towards lil Louis. The final track is a LeSale disco dub of "The Way You Rock feat. Mirror People". LeSale strips the original drums completely, rearranging the vox, piano and synths to fit his disco workout edit style, adding a cheeky synth bassline to complete the boogie redress. After presenting his ‘Best of Live’ series, Redshape returns to his own label with a retrovisionist release that looks back in time as much as it looks forward to the future.

Revving up on the A side is ‘Shift’, a propulsive hurtle to the final frontiers. Starting off ominously with just drums, bass and a Pollock splatter of toms, the track is soon overrun by an army of relentlessly running basslines, let loose to steer in and out like searching headlights on a dark and endless highway. With a heavier kick, the track shifts into top gear with pensive pads soaring overhead, mesmerizing squeaks and his signature attention to percussive detail.

On the flip is ‘Drive’, which switches gears down a notch as an astrospace cruise along intergalactic coastlines – from summery California to shiny Coruscant. A rounded pounding beat with heavy sub bass bounces along to a breezy tropical melody and spacious percussive work, before riding off into a cinematic sunset that is as nostalgic as it is hopeful of the coming dawn.

Once again on the edge of spatial sound but grounded in analog warmth, Redshape has presented a revision of classic record productions that truly punches as it is meant to be felt and heard – on wax.

Paradise Palms presents a brand new EP from Edinburgh-based musician John Bryden aka Eyes Of Others. Gloomy but with a luminous edge, Stimulus sees Bryden creating dark, chugging moods driven by an ensemble of drum machine loops and a broken Yamaha CS01 - elevated by introspective lyrics, haunting vocals and a baggy pop quality. 

Counting Andrew Weatherall, Geoffrey Mugwump and Sordid Sound System amongst his fans, Bryden’s track ‘Like It When It’s Lazy’ also caught the ear of electronic pioneer Das Ding (Minimal Wave, Pinkman) who has contributed a tense and sinister 7 minute remix to the EP. 

‘Stimulus’ is available digitally on 10th November and will be distributed by EPM. The record was mastered by Sam Smith at Green Door Studios in Glasgow.

James Welsh continues his run of exemplary club singles on Phantasy with another powerful and uncompromising two-track release, Sitting/Rubber Dog. The record follows D974, which earned support from DJs including Laurent Garnier, Charlotte de Witte and Luke Slater.

Sitting enforces precision rhythm with a rolling, dystopian bass line alongside a hypnotic and memorable vocal sample. As the tension increases, the track’s clinical feel is unexpectedly flipped on its own head, blossoming into an intoxicating and emotive synth melody.

Meanwhile, Rubber Dog stays true to its absurdist title, as Welsh dials his analogue assistance to a head-spinning maximum, pulping out an unwieldy jam that blends industrial and electro influences to riveting and darkly psychedelic effect.
