Welcome to this Atmospheres episode curated by Bålsam

Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Anthony Asher-Yates approached ambient music when he moved to Colombia, being inspired by the diversity of the ecosystems that exist in this region. Known for taking his listeners deep into the tropical rainforest, Bålsam has conjured up a dream world surrounded by nature. Anthony's music is composed by field recordings he does during his walks though the mountains where he now lives with partner Nina Nativa and his daughter.

E.M.C. is thrilled to present the new guest of our Atmosphere playlist: Moss Covered Technology

Based in South West UK, Greig Baird debuted with the Moss Covered Technology alias in 2016 for Eilean Records. His works are inspired by the ideas and aesthetics emerging from the observation and experience  of natural landscapes and environments, creating unique atmospheres. Since his debut, Greig has gone on to release ambient works for some prestigious labels reflecting his music taste, such as Hibernate Records, Polar Seas Recordings, and Dronarivm.

Shapes is back! EMC is glas to introduce Mootney! 

David Mootney, @flower-broadcast-systems label curator delivers a colorful dancefloor oriented mix full of mood swings. Being educated in ways of groove in infamous Kyiv based Closer club, and released on labes like @progressive-future and @mute-artefact David is no stranger to broken and bass driven beats as well as sublime house numbers. The mix progresses from cutting edge 2-step into al variations of house music spectrum, from deep and tech to acid and detroit.

Diplo’s LA based label Higher Ground debuts at Prime with London based artist and 'Semi Delicious' label head Demi Riquísimo, who has earned global recognition for his unique acid and italo house inspired sound. His first proper release on Higher Ground 'Windows 95 Anthem' follows recent notable tracks on Ninja Tune, DJ Tennis' Life & Death and his own label Semi Delicious, as well as collaborations with Carlita, UNKLE, TSHA, and more. The tracks receive remix treatments from tastemakers Spray and Chloe Caillet, with Chloe's remix arriving shortly after the launch of her own label imprint and global party series.

Siamese Twins embarks on its 10th release milestone with the acclaimed Thai performance artist Tul Waitoonkiat. In หนึ่งคำถาม (One Question), Waitoonkiat's poetry is conjoined into a versatile sonic meeting of minds, created in collaboration with producers Black Merlin, Sapphire Slows, and Sleep D. Aligning seamlessly with Siamese Twins' trademark ethos of cultural reflection and interdisciplinary exploration.

Waitoonkiat, known for his socio-political work "2553," which reflects on the 2010 military crackdown in Thailand, has presented his novel "Silence is Violence" through multidisciplinary art exhibitions across Bangkok. One of these collaborations with Siamese Twins’ Khun Fluff in 2022 established a profound connection and laid this release's foundational recording layer. The recorded poem explores existential themes, pondering the endless cycle of questioning and the dichotomy between silence and imagination, darkness and light, with its contemplative imagination setting the stage.

The A-side unveils George Thompson's universe, known in the terrestrial realm as Black Merlin, with two noirish cinematic explorations that compose Waitoonkiat’s trademark expressive and enigmatic voice into the release's fabric. Showcasing Thompson’s ability to create hypnotic, depth-charged soundscapes that captivatingly feed into a broader story rather than claiming center stage.

The B-side begins with a delicate approach to sound design, crafted through the Buchla synthesizer by Japanese modular artist Sapphire Slows. The charm of this version lies within the sustained notes that gently inhale and exhale between enigmatic vocoder effects and layers of beauty, nature, and technology.

B2 closes with a seven-and-a-half-minute peak timer revolving around a pulsating bassline and driving force of drum energy. One craving for packed warehouses and bush raves by the Australian wizards of OZ and Butter Sessions label owners, Sleep D, aka Corey Kikos and Maryos Syawish.

EMC stands for Electronic Music Culture. The project was born in 2015 as a web radio and developed into a podcast series, music network, and collective of DJs.

We explore underground electronic music in all its complexity, and our playlists collected more than 100 mixes over the years and is now divided into two main folders: Shapes and Atmospheres.
