Borys disfruta del electro, el hard drum y el breakbeat, pero últimamente se ha sentido cada vez más inspirado por el sonido del latin tek.

Is anyone in France keyed into the sound of UK funky as sharply as Kaval? Sneaker sets out a strong case with this four-tracker of cool and deadly shufflers which take that insistent groove and give it a different lick.

Kaval has got plenty going on in Toulouse, where he’s riding the online airwaves with the Egregore Collective and got his name all over the Riddim Supplies series 12”s. Those with their sticky fingers on all the best bits of wax the past few years might have stumbled across those records in the racks. Elsewhere, he’s also locked in with the Ruff Club crew who are bringing the DIY free party vibe to Toulouse under railway lines, in abandoned buildings and anywhere they can sneak a genny, a system, some lights and a vibe. All this is to say Kaval is the real deal, doing things the proper way, and it shows in his tunes.

The cuts on this record are absolutely built for the dance, functional like a DJ record should be but not at the expense of the flair. ‘Combo II’ has fun slipping snatches of MCs around utopian synth licks, while ‘Pistolaser’ is spilling over with crafty micro edits and snappy samples that bring the limber groove to life. The crooked beat and rounded square wave bass is a given, and Kaval wields the rhythm section with poise, but it’s the playful energy he brings to the top end which really lifts his gear. It’s no wonder his tracks have been bumped by the likes of Nick Léon, perfectly bridging the gap from funky into the deft Latin-tinged zones explored by the Miami heavyweight.

It’s records like this that prove exploration of UK funky, like so many club genres, has so much more to give to the dance.

This is my first studio mix in many years, a collection of some of the new sounds that I've been digging within the world of club and bass music. I put this together for my submission to DJ at APOG music festival in 2025 but I am pleased with how it turned out and want to share it for your dancing pleasure. These tracks are fairly uptempo, dance floor focused and bass-driven so please turn it up and enjoy!

Original artwork by Brandon Fernandes aka DJ Cradlebrat. His sick little alien drawing inspired the name for this mix, as well as the Annihilation book series by Jeff VanderMeer, which I've been listening to recently (and highly recommend).

This time for INVITADXS we have an amazing evolving set from menki!
Brewing in the electronic music scene in China and Germany, Menki is a visual artist and DJ in the queer community. Influenced by video games, her mixes are like walking simulators that will take you on a ride from a first-person perspective.

As a member of http shanghai, a collective aimed at amplifying the voices of female and queer artists, she has built connections with venues, collectives, and radio platforms across Europe, Asia, and North America with her art and music over the years. 

If you want to see Menki DJ you can do that in Berlin at Panke Culture on Jan 18th! The event is collaboration with https://soundcloud.com/r9fia an online radio show dedicated to showcasing innovative sounds and genres that push the boundaries of electronic music. Menki and her friends will take over Panke with a night full of breaks, bass, footwork, Asian-influenced sounds, and deconstructed club. See u there?

@someguest is a DJ and producer, Jasna 1 resident, co-founder of the Warsaw collective Narocz13 and label Zejście. He started in the capital but is now gradually making his mark in other cities across Europe. His sets span a wide range of genres, from bass, techno, and Latin techno to even some Jersey club. In the production field, he has already released a slew of breaky, techno, electro, and UKG tracks on labels such as Ciarki, Low Income $quad, Das Booty, Wang Records, and Angels Gun Club (among others), as well as jungle and dubstep under the project 𝗚𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟯.
