Différents temps de la composition ont de différentes qualités. Parfois de l'humour, parfois de la curiosité (la curiosité véritable, pas celle de "l'étrange sonorité"), mais à mon regret la musicalité n'est pour moi pas toujours au rendez-vous... Et il ne s'agit pas du vide! Sa sécheresse est un trésor... Ce sont les plus courts temps de plein qui posent problème à mon oreille, et plus précisément l'instant de leur apparition. Ils deviennent alors comme des moustiques dont je veux me débarrasser, non plus les éléments d'une narration imagée. Ceci étant dit... As-tu écouté le Trio Joubran, ou les improvisations de Munir Bashir ? Ces artistes de l'Orient ont beaucoup étudié le silence en tant que matière pleine. Peut-être cela t'intéressera?

Recorded in fall 2015. Sorry for the excessive compression - it was part of my reason for putting these pieces aside. 
The beginning of the second track was used in Guillaume Vallée's ciné-danse video 'Le disque'.

Two untitled tracks I left off 'ANYTHING, ANY(one)THING' (2016)

In honor of the late great Mika Vanio, I present this recording I made of the show they played at Coney Island High on St Marks Place on October 30th 1998. It was incredibly intense, late in the set Alan vega jumps on stage and freaks on the mic like only he could. He was so amped he tripped over a cord and unplugged all of the gear in one fell swoop!! ( that's what the drop in music is)

Recorded on the legendary Sony MZ-R30 Mini-Disc Recorder using a sweet Sony condenser mic ( can't remember the model). It all sounds great and the MD and mic handle the heavy parts beautifully!

Transferred to CD using a direct to disc Harmon Kardon CDR 2 recorder into a Carver CT Seven Pre Amp using Sonic Holography circuit to beef up the soundstage

This study explores the opposition between elements and emptiness, sounds and silence and is inspired by my own painting techniques in which abstract elements are laid-out against a blank canvas.

Matière/Vide was presented during the 2011 Musica Viva-Soundwalk in Portugal and at the 2012 San Francisco Tape Festival.

Dans le cadre de cette étude, j’ai voulu explorer la notion d’opposition entre éléments et vide. Inspirée par mon travail en peinture, j’ai cherché à organiser la matière de façon similaire, c’est-à-dire en disposant des fragments de matière autonomes à l’intérieur d’un espace vide. 

Matière/Vide a été présentée dans le cadre du Festival Musica Viva-Soundwalk au Portugal en 2011 ainsi qu’au San Francisco Tape Festival en 2012.

Émilie Payeur lives and works in Montréal, Canada. She obtained a Master Degree in electroacoustic music composition at the University of Montreal, under the guidance of composer Robert Normandeau. She is a multidisciplinary artist, mainly active in live experimental/noise music and visual arts. Often described as being minimalist and sometimes harsh, her music is mainly based on the « no-input » technique and is all about the risk taking. 
 
She is member of Dead Squirrels (noise trio), Kohlenstoff Records (experimental music label and collective), Projet K (experimental ensemble) and Jeunesse Cosmique (spatial music label and family).
