Elena Comas (NELEONARD) and Anna Fredriksson (LOS GANGLIOS) aka DIE KATAPULT have written their first full length “DKXD”. It is a digital, mechanised world, entrenched in an inconsistent and disconcerting idiosyncrasy, which they have used with an extremely intelligent mix of surrealism, dadaism, humour and cheekiness.

To the beat of Google Translator, they propose a sonic journey around Europe in every sense possible: linguistically (they sing in German, French, English, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, and even Japanese), musically (the influences coming through belong to all the pop traditions of the old continent: LIO, DAFT PUNK, the already mentioned KRAFTWERK, AVIADOR DRO, TELEX, LADYTRON, Franco Battiato…).

To achieve all of this, they have had the help of none other than Ian Catt (SAINT ETIENNE, TREMBLING BLUE STARS, THE FIELD MICE, SHAMPOO, THE SCHOOL…) on production. 

“Autokrack” is pure electro-martial, making an army of linguistic pirouettes with the auto prefix. 

“Total Beschissen” speaks for itself: “Déjame ser muy claro en este punto. Este sistema es totalmente de mierda” (Let me be really clear about this. This system is total shit). Rough and melodic, comforting darkness. DEVO.

“Mallorca Pop” throws you off balance. Irony with a bass in the style of NEW ORDER. 

“Come To My Island” is based on a German board game to the beat of a vocoder, that Moroder would definitely have loved to play. 

"Fiesta De Presión” is a user manual to develop a way to achieve an optimal level of alcoholism. 

How many times have you been at a party and thought: “what am I doing here?” DIE KATAPULT tell us on “Was Machst Du”, a kind of techno ye-ye song.

“Bäckerei Digital” opens the second side and is also the advance single for the album, or a marvellous line of bakery products, baked by a digital baker with 3D printing. 

“Bouts De Papier” oozes europop from every single pore. Étienne Daho would kill for those papers, which are the only remains of a lost love. 

“Sommer In Russland”, or what a summer in a soviet country with only the help of a “Lonely Planet” would be like. We invite Marc Almond to join us.

“Abhängigkeit” brings the best of disco music out to shine, to talk about dependence, as if METRONOMY, SOULWAX and KAVINSKY were paying homage to STEREO TOTAL. 

And to wrap things up, “Für Einen Moment” talks about a curious phenomenon, about alcohol consumption going way up in July and August because of the higher temperatures resulting from climate change. 

What Elena Comas and Anna Fredriksson have done is a unique, hilarious and reflexive exercise in attitude. Enjoy them - they are one of a kind.

Sometimes a life is a story that can be told through our travels throughout our life. It has been a long time since we have heard any news from BAND À PART, but then, traveling takes time. But the road fills us with inspiration, and in the case of Javi and Coral, the result of this is “Templos Y Neones”, their second full-length album, and the objective, is inspired, on some songs, by a trip to the incredible city of Tokyo. This is an album that moves from night to day, that is drunk with Japanese references both in terms of sound and visuals, reaching heights that go beyond pop music. This album is an experience, and it is rich, diverse, sometimes slippery, and like all good journeys, it is exciting.

A few weeks ago, we introduced you to one of the new groups that has joined the Elefant family, FRED FREDBURGUER, that well-known character from the cartoon show, “The Grim Adventures Of Billy & Mandy”. 

So, the moment has arrived for them to release something in our collection focused on promising newcomers, “New Adventures In Pop”: their first Mini-LP, a 10” blue vinyl with a 500-copy, numbered, limited edition. As we could see on the two advance songs included on the Digital Single we were already able to listen to, we are looking at a refreshing exercise in punk-pop – carefree, unbiased and hyper-melodic. 

Fernando, Alba, Raúl and Elena debut in physical format with songs that are a hymn to youth, with echoes of THE SHOP ASSISTANTS, LOS FRESONES REBELDES, HEAVENLY and THE ROSEWHIPS, with a tribute to Friends (Colegas). They are exercises in fast-paced pop with great choruses and summery evocations (“Tardes De Sol”, “Ei, Uriel”) that would fit like a glove in the repertoire of TIGER TRAP or VIVIAN GIRLS; skilled attitude and cheekiness (“Cecilio G”, “Diana (No Quiere Escuchar Pop)”) that remind us of the best TCR…

And then there are the songs like “Guapo” with its marveLlous rhymes, one of those mid-tempos that you could sing a thousand times a day without getting tired of it, that finds a curious space between emotional confession and more direct flirting. “15 Minutos”, the only song longer than three minutes (the eight songs together barely reach twenty minutes!), shows a shifting structure with a really interesting dynamic that works perfectly as a brief narrative of those high school loves, the expectations and disappointments that go along with them.

And “Esta Ciudad”, that touch of discomfort at top speed, the scream when you are fed up when you feel like this is not your place, along the lines of the best JUNIPER MOON songs.

This is a major event for Elefant Records, and at the same time it is a release that somehow manages to close a circle that almost nobody knew was open. The magic of music. 

The thing is, the new album from Soleá Morente, produced by David Rodríguez, follows that rule about third albums: third albums are for reaffirmation, maturity, development. 

And, for the first time, Soleá herself has taken the lead role on songwriting for some of the songs on the album, which lets off exotic, rooted aromas but with an absolutely exceptional and marvellous sense of pop. Because Soleá Morente is a unique character on the Spanish music scene. 

Yes, because she is the daughter of the legendary flamenco singer, Enrique Morente and the dancer Aurora Carbonell, but also because the middle Morente child has always been permeable to other musical references and styles. That is why, on this album, credit is also given to songwriters like Ana Fernández-Villaverde (LA BIEN QUERIDA), David Rodríguez (LA ESTRELLA DE DAVID) and J (LOS PLANETAS). It is an exquisite cocktail; a square circle.

It has been a very intense decade, with more than twenty releases. Iván and Eva left behind a successful and immediate project like JUNIPER MOON to throw themselves into an even more elaborate and unique project. The years have passed and have shown that music is their thing. They have toured and released albums in countless countries, received praise from the press all over the world, and in times of an industry-wide crisis, they have managed to grow their fan base in every corner of the world. 

Because of that, and because of the amount of releases, they have either never been released on vinyl or they are sold out and out of print. And we think that it is a good time to release this compilation, which will close an era for the group (who are already preparing new songs), and which will allow many collectors as well as new fans to get their hands on many of these songs in a physical format.
