The compilation “Belarus Outside Sound System” is a collection of 13 contemporary electronic music stories from Belarus, spanning various genres such as house, ambient, drum'n'bass, disco, trap, somatic techno, future-bass, and EDM.

Within the release, you can experience the voice of the Minsk metro, the sounds of the unique Yelnya swamp, the incredible "Lullaby", as well as samples from folk songs and ethnic instruments, voices of famous Belarusians of the past and the present .

Each track represents a personal story of the musicians exploring their national identity. The compositions unveil the Belarusian cultural code through sounds, songs, motifs, instruments, and moods.

This release also serves as a creative expression against the repression in Belarus. Due to the threat of persecution, most authors have released their tracks under fictitious pseudonyms created specifically for the project.

Listen to the “Belarus Outside Sound System” compilation, and support Belarusian political prisoners and their families. All proceeds from the distribution of the compilation are directed to the BYSOL Solidarity Fund.

The compilation is published by the Belarus Outside Sound System, a charitable music movement that actively engages in various cultural projects, promotes contemporary Belarusian indie music, and addresses the socio-political agenda of Belarus.

The music is made fully of the sounds of Broken Orchestra Instruments, provided by Found Sound Nation. 
This US organisation in collaboration with Symphony for a Broken Orchestra has meticulously recorded the sounds of over 800 of broken instruments in an effort to inspire the public to ‘adopt’ these instruments and raise funds to repair and return them to public schools throughout Philadelphia. 
Symphony for a Broken Orchestra was commissioned by Temple Contemporary at The Tyler School of Art. Major support is provided by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, with additional support from the Barra Foundation.

PLAVAY. Hydrodance is a sound installation in the form of an audio meditation created by OMMA and curated by Anna Politiko. This work was commissioned by Zuzeum for its inaugural exhibition We Aim to Live. The word 'plavay'(плавай) means 'to swim' in Russian, and reflects a transient state of meditation. 

OMMA says of her work: “Due to the effects of synesthesia (a neurological condition that causes one to experience senses differently – one might hear colours or taste words), I hear water and the blue colour as smooth, sinusoidal waves of sounds, opposite to noisy or sharp vibrations. This whole audio piece delivers different moods and vibrations. I wanted to reveal the phases of nature, all hydro elements: low and high tides, wind, sea birds, and underwater creatures. The piece conveys the feeling of ‘underwaterness’ through sound filters. Some elements of the composition were recorded with Playtronica’s TouchMe device when I was playing with conductivity in the water. ”

The PLAVAY. Hydrodance meditation hour* invites audiences to become entangled with water on a quantum level while surrounded by art. Water flows through us, it unifies all beings. By fostering interconnectedness through meditation, we gain new ways of feeling, seeing, and understanding.

Sound artist OMMA (Olga Maximova) studied jazz piano at Bill Evans Piano Academy in Paris. OMMA has an innovative and playful approach to music. Outside of performing and recording, OMMA is the co-creator of the tech project Playtronica, which turns everyday objects into musical instruments. She has staged solo synesthetic exhibitions in collaboration with Centre Pompidou, Palais de Tokyo, Foundation Louis Vuitton, L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, and Erarta.

Psyclones: Tape Music 1980 – 1984
 
Since the early 1980s the Eureka, California based duo Psyclones freak out in music. As one of the most long-standing DIY duos, Brian Ladd and Julie Frith created a body of work, that flirts with Ambient, experimental industrial sounds, New Wave, Post-Punk, Synth-Pop, and all that electric jazz. Besides a few hard-to-find vinyl releases, they published their music regularly via cassette tapes on labels like their own imprint Ladd-Frith or other famed 1980's underground tape labels like Cause And Effect from Indianapolis, legendary San Francisco based Subterranean Records, Sound of Pig from New York, Insane Music from Belgium or the Spanish label Auxilio De Cientos to name but a few.
 
Now, Notte Brigante is dropping “Tape Music 1980 – 1984” – a detailed compiled sampler on Psyclones early output, that was scattered over diverse tape releases. A nine tracks long trip into the work of a highly underrated band, that never lost their drive to explore new avenues in sound. “Tape Music 1980 – 1984” displays their artistic impulse with a strong, minimal leaning post-punk feeling, spreading the early magic of a once new genre, that liberated rock music briefly from its bombastic male driven professionalism. Psyclones liberated large, while adding the repetitive patterns of drum machines, witchy female singing, cool male chanting, Tuxedomoon-ish weirdness, darkish synth sounds and dubby big city Angst to their cocktail of music. All balancing between icy wave coolness and nonchalant neon funk. Insane Music for sane people, smokers, rain lovers, midnight movers and all those cats, that can’t cope with the pre-written consumer life reality. If you chose to eat “Tape Music 1980 – 1984”, make sure to wear shoulder pads, bring an ashtray and turn your inner fog machine on.

Music recorded on cassette by Julie Frith and Brian Ladd between 1980 and 1984. LP mastered today from the original recordings.
