“Germany’s @Causa first got in touch in June last year, contributing his sound to the steady influx of submissions we get through the FKOF inboxes. When we listened to the young producer’s tunes we were - no exaggeration needed - absolutely astounded by what we heard. We see FKOFd as a platform to launch producers’ careers, bringing music to the global FKOF audience. With music as good as the four tracks on Causa’s FKOFd019, almost all of that work is done for us. 

“For once, FKOFd019 is an EP that doesn’t need reams and reams of text written about it. The music says everything it needs to - and often going above and beyond what you’d expect to. If there was a release in the FKOFd back catalogue that best epitomised where the label’s ‘sound’ lies - this is it. 'Dismaying' opens the release with its futuristic take on sparse bass-led monstrosities. 'Mighty Dub', somewhat unsurprisingly, does exactly what its title suggests. It truly is a mighty dub (see what we did there) - paying respects to the founding sound but bringing it uptodate with a 2015 twist. 'Invasion Dub' charges the beaches and takes no prisoners. It’s six minutes of pure sonic warfare, a tune that will command respect from both selector and dancefloor. Fourth and final inclusion 'Blaster' is probably the biggest anthem (although, in our opinion, all four are) on the release - it is absolutely gargantuan. And, given the response it’s had, that’s something everyone seems to agree with.

"1137 has less than a thousand followers on SoundCloud, but has impressed with his adventurous US-bred take on combining dubstep and grime – two UK genres – into the material you’ll be hearing across our last four tracker of this year. We’ve spent a bit of time watching the producers stepping between the lines of a number of electronic genres over the last twelve months, and the tunes we’ve signed from 1137 exemplify the music we’re most excited about at the moment."

"FKOFd036 opens with the meditative ‘Can’t Escape It’; a near 5m audial journey into the beats, bass and space we love so much. It’s a heads/ eyes down roller, that invites for more than a handful of listens with its warming low end, crisp drumwork and addictive synths. ‘Undefeated’ follows, with a decidedly grimey approach to its production. It’s a tune that’d welcome an MC over the top of it in the dance, but is equally placed warming up the subs before the gunfingers come out. Watch for its sampling, instrumental placement and the near-roaring bassweight. 

"‘Terror Dub’ continues the slide into almost straight grime instrumental territory, with its threatening atmospheres and strings. Watch for the flip on the 2nd drop, this one’s for the bass bins. Last, but definitely not least, we round off FKOFd036 with ‘Engulfed’ – a track that evokes nightmarish experiences thanks to the keys up top, while crashing about with its sumptuous, enveloping basslines down low."

The latest instalment of the Hold Tight Records digital catalogue comes courtesy of a brand new member of the family, Subtle Mind. Hailing from west coast USA, this exciting and versatile producer has been turning heads around the globe with his unique take on dubstep and dub wise styles. Incorporating melodic and experimental elements alongside solid bass weight and deep atmospheres, this four track EP takes the listener on a journey through Subtle Mind’s world. 

The first track, ‘Warrior Mentality’, is a collaboration with San Francisco based bass weight wizard Saule, another talented producer making huge waves around the 140/dubstep scene worldwide. A backbone of solid and rolling drums is accompanied by an entrancing and deep sub bass, which has already been doing damage on sound systems worldwide. This is followed by the title track ‘Chiefin’, an absolute weapon – or evil bubble machine – already being supported by dubstep heavyweights worldwide. ‘Dope n Pinot’ sees Subtle Mind explore deep and growling bass lines coupled with intricate fx, and ‘SFV OG’ brings the EP to a close with it’s dystopian atmospheres and futuristic grime/trap elements.

HTD006 takes inspiration from the roots of UK sound system culture along with various styles of global electronic music, representing the Hold Tight ethos; presenting new sounds that draw heavy influence from the music’s history. We are very proud to be able to share Subtle Mind’s latest release with you, and look forward to hearing your feedback.
