Novo Amor and Ed Tullett first crossed paths in November 2013, at the Newport date of Ed’s UK tour. After showing an immediate appreciation for each other’s work, Ed, based in Brighton, spent December at Novo Amor (Ali Lacey)’s Cardiff home-studio, writing a record’s worth of material.

Recorded in March and self-produced by the pair in Cardiff, ‘Faux’ is the first realization of their collaborative talent, a swirling combination of their stunning falsettos, giant acoustic swells, and cryptic lyrics. The single, to be released via Norway-based label Brilliance Records, and Dumont Dumont, home to RY X, is an addictive alternative-folk behemoth.

Ed Tullett is currently putting final touches to his new record, ‘Fiancé’, a dark, electronic departure to his early acoustic work, after having remixes of Bon Iver (released on Spotify on the Bon Iver Stems Project album) and Local Natives shared by the bands themselves. 

Novo Amor’s ‘Woodgate, NY’ EP was released in March via Brilliance to rave reviews (6/6 – GAFFA, 8/10 – The 405), after premiering on The Line Of Best Fit. 

Their collaboration is the start of something bigger, as they prepare to write further and look to crafting a full record later in the year.

Brilliance Records is a small indie label out of Bergen, Norway. The label’s focus is to discover and present new brilliant music.

Dumont Dumont is a label based in Stockholm, Sweden. Australian artist RY X was the first artist to be released on the label.

Escondido is Nashville, TN based artists Jessica Maros and Tyler James. Recorded live in a single day, their debut album, The Ghost of Escondido, was released to critical acclaim. Their David Lynch approved sound became the soundtrack to multiple films and TV shows including HBO's Girls and Sex Tape and led to performances on Conan and ABC's Nashville. Following tours with the likes of Lord Huron, Wild Cub, and Islands, the duo recently completed their follow-up album, Walking With A Stranger, due out winter 2016

The pair met while James was recording their mutual friend at his home studio. “Jess was quietly strumming this song Rodeo Queen on the couch while everyone else was making drinks in the kitchen. I pushed record and added a little groove before folks got back in the room. Later that night we listened to it and both said ‘You wanna make a record?’” They spent the next two months crafting the songs and bonding over a shared love of spaghetti westerns and songwriters from the 70’s. “We’d put on Ennio Morricone every morning,” says Maros. “It’s an easy process when you both love the same stuff.”
 
While Escondido’s sophomore album retains their southwest fantasia, swirling trumpet, and slow-motion reverb, the approach has changed. “Our first record was lightning in a bottle,” says James. “This time around was a hibernation so we could dig into the arrangements and sounds.”  After fleshing out the demos, the band returned to The Casino studio in Nashville and recruited drummer Evan Hutchings and guitarist Scotty Murray to help them lay the records foundation. The duo then spent the following months hunkered in James’ bedroom studio, with James adding guitars, bass, trumpet, and keyboards. They then recorded vocals in a rented cabin south of Nashville and made final tweaks at Wax LTD. Studios in Hollywood, CA. The result is a complex landscape ranging from the aggressive noir of “Footprints” and “Heart is Black” to the love lost ballad “Try”.  “We weren’t as precious about all the tracks being stylistically cohesive,” says Maros "We just focused on writing good songs that come from an honest place”.

The making of their new record plus extensive touring did eventually take a toll on the band’s relationship. The two agreed that they needed some time apart so Maros moved to LA while James stayed in Nashville.  “There was a time where writing music was the only way we communicated.” says James. That distance is reflected in the songs on Walking With A Stranger. “This record’s lyrics describe the loneliness you feel when with you’re with someone everyday,” says Maros. “The natural tug-of-war between a man and a woman.”  The band eventually worked through their differences months later on a camping trip to Death Valley. They drove to the middle of nowhere to find what inspired them in the first place. “It took us being apart to appreciate our differences,” reflected James. “Music helps us forget the very conflict it grows out of. My favorite songs embrace that dissonance." The result is their follow album, Walking With A Stranger due out this February on their own label, Kill Canyon.

My mixtape's are my 80 minute journey of music, my way to explore, express and share my passion. From all sub genres of house music to my outro's which usually go deep and downtempo, another kind of music I listen to religiously.

Searching for the music and then making them literally takes me days and days but mixtape making is something I really love to do. I hope you enjoy them as much as I love making them!
